Former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma allegedly said something hateful about the holy Prophet Mohammad during a televised discussion. Justices JK Maheshwari and Indira Banerjee of the vacation bench heard the petition. Petition was listed on July 11 after being mentioned before the registrar, according to the petitioner.
On Wednesday, a lawyer asked the Supreme Court to keep former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in jail because she allegedly said something hateful about the holy Prophet Mohammad during a televised discussion.
The issue was brought up in front of the vacation bench of Justices JK Maheshwari and Indira Banerjee.
The attorney said that despite a police report, no action was being taken and urged the court to list the plea.
“Why bring it up before the break bench? “Bring it up in front of the registrar,” the bench said.
The petition was listed on July 11 after being mentioned before the registrar, according to the petitioner, Abu Sohel. Advocate Chand Qureshi represented Advocate Abu Sohel in the plea, which also included a request for an “independent, credible, and unbiased inquiry” into the occurrence.
It should be remembered that Sharma’s appeal for the clubbing of many FIRs filed against her for statements against the Prophet was denied by the Supreme Court on Friday. The justices, Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala’s panel, had previously criticised Sharma, saying that she had a “loose tongue” and made careless remarks without considering the repercussions.
