29 km long Dwarka Expressway will be completed by 2024 said Minister for road, transport & highways Shri Nitin Gadkari. With the completion of the project, the expressway will become the first elevated urban expressway in India.
India is witnessing a tremendous boost in investment and development of infrastructure connectivity projects with the team under Mr. Gadkari achieving new milestones quite often. Although there exist many reasons behind the fast-paced development the most significant of all is the launch of PM Gati Shakti Yojana.
The highway will help:
- Reduce overcrowding on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway.
- Solve the problem of traffic jams.
- Improve Air Quality Index in Delhi-NCR.
Dwarka expressway, also known as the Northern Peripheral Road in the Haryana portion is a 29km long expressway to enhance connectivity between Dwarka, New Delhi and Gurugram, Haryana. With Estimates showing that approximately, 2 Lakh MT of steel and 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete will be consumed during the construction. However, the environmental aspect of the project should not be undermined, this expressway will cause massive transplantation of 12000 trees.
Taking Indian highways at par with the international standards, a 3-lane service road on both sides, state-of-the-art technologies for traffic management, CCTVs for surveillance, and newer innovations for toll collection will be deployed at the expressway. The cost of completion of the project will be Rs 9000 crore.

Terming the project as “Pragati ka Expressway” the union minister said, half of the traffic on NH-8 will be diverted onto the Dwarka expressway, hence improving the traffic movement towards Sohna Road, Golf Course Road, and air extension.
“Once operational in 2024, it shall immensely help reduce the air pollution in Delhi-NCR PM Modi planning to launch Gati Shakti as well”.
With an aim to decongest Delhi roads the highway will also provide direct access to the upcoming IICC in Dwarka sector 25 and an alternate route to IGI airport.
PM Gati Shakti
Earlier, in 2021 PM Narendra Modi launched PM Gati Shakti– National Master Plan for Multi-Modal Connectivity, a digital platform that brings together 16 ministries for integrated planning and execution of infrastructure connectivity projects in India. The program is considered crucial for India’s development and is also the main driving force behind different infrastructure projects now being executed more efficiently in different parts of the country.
