Serena Williams announced her plans to move away from tennis last month and since then contested in Montreal and Cincinnati WTA 1000 events. Now ranked 608th in the world, Serena will start her US Open campaign against Danka Kovinic in the first round. It will be a night session at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday.
Venus Williams on the other hand is ranked 1,445th in the world and received a wildcard to play in singles. She will face Belgium’s Alison van Uytvanck in the first round. Venus is 7 time Grand Slam champion.
The sisters first won a Grand Slam together in 1999 during Roland Garros and their 14th came in 2016 during Wimbledon. Apart from winning 14 majors together, the sisters have also won 3 Olympic Gold medals.
The duo won 2 major doubles together at US Open, in 1999 and 2009. If it is indeed the last of what the world will see of the Williams, it is certainly fitting. The duo last played doubles together back in 2018 Roland Garros.
