Kolkata: 2 boys kidnapped & killed in Moving Car, Bodies Dumped in Canal
Two school students were discovered dead in a roadside ditch more than two weeks after they had been abducted. The bodies were found after one of the arrested suspects admitted that the boys had been kidnapped and murdered.
KOLKATA: Two class X students who had left their Keshtopur home two weeks prior with a neighbor to buy a motorcycle were killed on the same evening while being strangled inside a moving car, and their bodies were dumped into a canal off Basanti Expressway while the father of one of the boys continued to receive calls and messages demanding a ransom of Rs. 1 crore for his son’s safe return.
The police didn’t realise the two boys had been kidnapped and murdered 14 days prior to Monday’s arrest of one of the suspects in the kidnapped case; instead, they followed the bodies to the Basirhat police mortuary, 50 kilometres away.
Even though the parents had already recognised their children at the police mortuary on Tuesday, the final message, threatening to kill one of the boys if the ransom wasn’t paid, was sent.
The main suspect, Satyendra Chaudhary, 24, is a longtime acquaintance and neighbor of one of the victims. The Bidhannagar Police have detained four people, but Satyendra is still at large.
On the afternoon of August 22, cousins Atanu Dey (16) and Abhishek Naskar (15) departed from their Baguiati homes. Atanu’s father claims that his son went out to buy a secondhand bike with Satyendra, who used to deal in used vehicles in the region.
The bodies were found after one of the arrested accused admitted that the boys had been murdered soon after they were kidnapped on August 22. They were thrown into the ditch after being strangled in a moving car.
Atanu Dey and Abhishek Naskar were abducted from Kolkata’s Baguihati area.
“For the bike, my son gave Satyendra Rs 50,000. I have no idea how he was able to raise the funds. But when he didn’t come home that evening, we went to the nearest police station, New Town, but were told to go to Baguiati instead. Police there were first hesitant to accept a complaint, but they eventually reported a lost diary. We began receiving random calls and messages on August 23 in the evening, and an abduction FIR was filed “said Atanu’s father, central government employee Biswanath Dey.
The parents made many trips to the police station over the course of the following two weeks while also continuing to get texts from the kidnapped, who did not answer calls.
Motive not yet known, say cops
Abhijit Bose, a collaborator of Satyendra, was arrested by police on Monday at Keshtopur crossing, marking the first significant development in the murder of the schoolboys. “He sobbed and said that he and the others had killed the two lads in the car by strangling them, then dumped their bodies in the canal. Additionally, he revealed the whereabouts of three additional conspirators, Shamim Ali (20), Sahil Molla (20), and Dibyendu Das (25), as well “said Biswajit Ghosh, deputy commissioner of the Bidhannagar City Police’s detective division.
The sedan that the teens were killed in, which was registered with a self-driving vehicle sharing website, was also seized.
The police contacted the police in Basirhat and Baruipur based on Abhijit’s confession.Three unidentified bodies that had been at a morgue for more than ten days were reported to the Basirhat police. On Tuesday afternoon, the bodies of Atanu and Abhishek were identified by their family members.
According to Ghosh, only Atanu had been summoned by Satyendra, and he had persuaded Abhishek to go with him. The two were first driven by Satyendra and his assistants to a bike showroom in Rajarhat, but they made no purchases there. After that, they started driving on the Rajarhat Expressway. The two lads were killed somewhere close to Malancha between 9.30 and 10 o’clock. But it’s still unclear what led to the murder. Although Satyendra and Atanu’s family were friendly, there was a dispute between them regarding the Rs 50,000 that Atanu had given to Satyendra.
However, the sum is insufficient for a person to murder someone with the aid of hired men. It appears that a competition may have developed. However, we are confident that Abhishek wasn’t the intended victim,” a senior officer added.
Satyendra’s wife was ransacked by angry locals in Jagatpur. Police saved Satyendra’s wife and child. Since both victims were children, Sashi Panja, the minister of women’s and children’s welfare, has sought a thorough report from the panel.
