In the BWF World Tour Rankings, Indian shuttler Prannoy HS has risen to the top of the men’s singles category.
Prannoy became the top shuttler in the tour rankings following the rankings update on September 6.
HS Prannoy, 30, is on a roll after reaching the quarter-finals of the Japan Open, propelling him to the top of the BWF Rankings. He holds the most points in the Guangzhou standings and is one point ahead of defending world champion Viktor Axelsen.
The BWF World Tour 2022 began on January 11 and will conclude on December 18. The BWF Badminton World Tour is in its sixth season. The tour includes 22 tournaments that will culminate in the final of December. These 22 events are separated into five levels: World Tour finals (Level 1), Super 1000 (Level 3), Super 750 (Level 4), Super 500 (Level 5), and Super 300 (Level 5). Each of these tournaments offers additional prize money and ranking points.
Prannoy’s Journey
Prannoy began 2022 with a quarterfinal performance in the India Open in January.
The following month, he advanced to the quarterfinals of the Syed Modi International 2022.
Prannoy reached the quarterfinals of the German Open 2022 in March 2022. In the same month, he failed to go past the first round of the 2022 All England Open. He finished second at the Swiss Open 2022, losing in the final to Leonardus Jonatan Christie of Indonesia.
He was eliminated in the first round of the Korea Open 2022 in early April. He did not do well at the 2022 Thailand Open, which was held in May, and was eliminated in the first round.
Prannoy reached the semifinals of the 2022 Indonesia Open in June. He lost in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Malaysia Open the following month.
The shuttler concluded the Malaysia Masters 2022 in July after losing in the semifinal. Prannoy reached the quarterfinals of the Singapore Open the same month. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Japan Open in August.
Despite not having a championship to his name this year, HS Prannoy has risen to the top of the BWF World Rankings because of his exceptional consistency. Throughout the year, he has defeated numerous top ten players, including Kento Momota, Chou Tien Chen, and Loh Kean Yew. Aside from that, the 30-year-old was instrumental in helping the country win the Thomas Cup.
Prannoy is currently the world’s number one player, according to the BWF World Tour Rankings, and is one step closer to qualifying for the World Tour Finals. The BWF World Tour finals will be placed this year in Guangzhou, China, from December 14 to 18. Prannoy has 58,090 points on the tour as of September 8, 2022, and is more than 2,500 points ahead of defending world champion Viktor Axelsen.
