Jhulan Goswami becomes only second women cricketer to complete 200 ODI matches for India.
At Eden Park on Saturday morning, veteran Jhulan Goswami scripts a special double tonne as she plays her 200th One-Day International (ODI) match against Australia in the Women’s World Cup at Eden Park. She became the second female cricketer, after Mithali Raj, to join this elite list.
This Indian duo have established their own era in the history of women’s cricket. Mithali has played 230 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) to date, and with Jhulan joining her, the MilJhul have surpassed former England captain Charlotte Edwards’ record of 191 ODIs, the most by any player at the time.
The 39-year-old fast bowler is playing the fifth World Cup edition of her career for India in New Zealand since her debut in 2005.
She holds the record of highest wicket-taker in the history of the Women’s World Cup, surpassing Australia’s Lyn Fullston against the Windies, along with 250 wickets in ODI cricket against England.
Mithali congratulated Jhulan on this historic achievement. MilJhul’s memorable moments
On Jhulan Goswami’s contribution to cricket, Ellyse Perry said, “Not just myself, but our entire team has a tremendous level of respect for Jhulan for what she has done for the game, not just for the Indian team, but the whole of women’s cricket globally.”
Jhulan, with 18 catches, is just one catch away from England’s Janette Brittin, who, at the age of 19, holds the record for most catches by a non-wicketkeeper in the Women’s World Cup.
