AAP gathering the attraction from different parties over the remarks of Kejriwal in the 2017 Assembly Election; Congress releases manifesto on the last day of campaigning in Punjab.
With 48 hours left before Punjab goes for Election on February 20, election campaigns have halted throughout the state. But in the last few days of campaigning, AAP had faced serious blowback from its three significant contenders BJP, SAD, and Congress.
The recent controversy over the remarks made by AAP party supremo Arvind Kejriwal has led to the backlash against the AAP party to gear up.
Many of you might be wondering why such a backlash on the AAP party is explicit. The reason is that AAP has evolved into one of the leading contenders for the Punjab Assembly Election.
In the 2017 Assembly Election, AAP emerged as the primary contender in Punjab. With Congress bagging 77 out of the 117 constituencies it had fought, AAP won 20 seats out of the 112 seats it fought for, followed by Shiromani Akali Dal winning 15 seats out of 94 constituencies it had contested in.
In this context, even senior Congress leader and former Union Minister of Law and Justice had mentioned that he could see a wave of AAP supporters in the state.
He predicted that AAP would likely form government in Punjab this election. In this context, Arvind Kejriwal Commented that the other parties feared AAP because the AAP government would stop their ‘loot’ in the state.
On Friday, February 18, Kejriwal accused the other parties of framing him and replied to the allegations leveled against him by saying that he is the “world’s sweetest terrorist” this came a day after he was accused of having connections with the separatist movement in Punjab during the 2017 Assembly Election.
Mr. Kejriwal had further commented,
“I must be the world’s sweetest terrorist, a terrorist who provides schools, hospitals, electricity, roads, water…”
He openly questioned the PM that if he was considered a terrorist, why was he not arrested all this time and claimed that every party has ganged up against him because they want to stop an honest party from winning the elections.
Further taking a jibe at AAP’s working as a party, PM Narendra Modi said that he wants to serve more people under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which provided healthcare to 11 lakh people. Still, this scheme had failed to work in Delhi as the government had not integrated it into the system till now. PM Modi had also questioned AAP over the issue of electricity.
He said that the party promises to provide electricity by cutting on the expenses. Instead, they are driving the state of Punjab to total darkness. He urged the people not to let Delhi come to Punjab and rule the state for the next five years.
Punjab is going to the elections on February 20, and results will be counted on March 10. Further updates are therefore awaited.
