With the Punjab Assembly Elections just days away, tensions are running high across the state. Attacks on the Government policy and execution by leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), PM Narendra Modi have become frequent.
In the recent past, they questioned CM Channi’s nephew’s association with illegal sand activities. In this regard, PM Modi had mentioned in his speech in the Jalandhar rally that if the NDA government is formed in Punjab, it would target the formation of the “Nava Punjab” and make Punjab a drug free state.
On Tuesday, February 16, Ashwini Kumar, Senior leader of Congress and the former Union Minister of Law and Justice under Manmohan Singh’s Leadership, had ended his 46-year long association with the Congress Party.
Ashwini Kumar, in an interview, said that there is a huge favor for AAP across Punjab
In an interview with Panchayat Aaj Tak on the same day, he mentioned seeing a wave for AAP in Punjab. When questioned further on the topic, he said, “I have come from Punjab barely four-five hours ago.
I have seen waves for AAP, even on seats where nobody heard the name of the AAP candidate. People are talking about jhaadu [broom, election symbol of AAP].”
Deliberating further on the topic, Mr. Kumar said that the rural areas, which are supposed to be Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) and Congress’s stronghold, are now portraying unprecedented support for the AAP candidates.
After the statement, Mr. Kumar had launched a scathing attack on the Congress Party and the Gandhi Family. He had mentioned that the way Capt. Amrinder Singh was humiliated and ousted from the party was not fair, indicating that he deserved better treatment.
He even condemned the “narrow-minded” Congress and expressed his distress over the recent controversies of the party. Agreeing with Congress Leader’s statement, AAP spokesperson Neel Garg had mentioned that the surveys show AAP having a higher advantage in this election, particularly from the period after Bhagwant Maan was announced as the Party’s CM candidate.
In a different view, PM Modi had called AAP as the photocopy of Congress and compared Congress in Punjab to AAP in Delhi and mentioned that one party had looted Punjab. In contrast, the other party had led to corruption in Delhi.
He had urged the people of Punjab to vote BJP in this election as they wanted to make Punjab strong in its totality. He assured that if BJP is given five years to serve the state of Punjab, he will increase trade, farming, and industries and make it profitable.
He accused the Congress Party as it questioned the Government, the people of Punjab, and the army downgrading the sacrifices of the soldiers. Punjab polls are scheduled on February 20 for 117 seats across the state. Further details regarding the elections are still awaited.
