Aaron Finch, captain of Australia, sustained a hamstring injury en route to his 63 off 44 balls against Ireland and is expected to undergo a scan. Australia won by a score of 42 runs and is currently ranked second in Group 1 rankings.
Injury scare for Aaron Finch
Monday during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Brisbane, Australia, Australia captain Aaron Finch faced an injury scare when he strained his hamstring. He got sprained while en route to a fifty that set up the reigning champion’s 42-run victory over Ireland.
Australia reached 179 for 5 when Finch smashed 63 off 44 balls, although he appeared to be suffering while dashing between the wickets in the latter stages of his remarkable innings.
The 35-year-old, who battled a hamstring issue in 2016 as well, departed the field early during Ireland’s pursuit, which concluded in 18.1 overs with 137 all out.
“I believe it’s a hamstring twinge; I’ll get a scan tomorrow because I have a history of these.” During the post-game presentation, Finch stated, “It doesn’t look too horrible right now, but let’s see how the scan turns out.”
Tim David, an all-rounder born in Singapore, also missed the entirety of Ireland’s innings, although Finch said it was “just a little of hamstring soreness, which was more precautionary than anything else.”
David didn’t field during Ireland’s innings
Finch, who was named Player-of-the-Match, stated that the batting surface was challenging, but he was pleased that the squad was able to produce a high total.
“It was an excellent performance. 180 was a respectable score on that wicket. We understood we had to set the groundwork early and could not afford to be 4-5 down.” It wasn’t the easiest wicket, and it was slower than anticipated. It was difficult to find a rhythm and we did well to reach 180,” he said. “They altered their pace effectively and bowled a lot of cutters early in the innings, making it difficult to establish a rhythm, he added.
Tucker’s unbeaten innings in the match earned praise
Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie praised Lorcan Tucker’s unbeaten 71 off 48 balls.
“We bowled well, but a couple of overs didn’t go our way, and we didn’t have the start with the bat, but to show the fight at the end was wonderful,” he said. “The wickets column was a concern, and who knows if someone had stayed with Tucker. These wickets suit him after a good World Cup,” he added.
With five points from four games, Australia is now in contention for a semifinal position in Group 1 ahead of England. New Zealand leads.
Afghanistan will play Australia in Adelaide on Friday.
