Despite unfavorable reviews and backlashes received, Prabhas’ Adipurush continues to gain momentum at the box office worldwide.
Prabhas’ Adipurush has been under extreme scrutiny over the various story and dialogue controversies. The much-awaited film, Adipurush hit the theatres on June 16. But despite all the controversies Adipurush is having a great run at the theatres. The movie grossed over Rs 300 crore in its first weekend and is continuing to do well at the box office.
The day three box office collection stood at Rs 65 crore on Sunday. Adipurush’s total collection in India has now reached Rs 216 crore in three days. Thus making the opening weekend collection over Rs 300 crore. The next few days are critical for Adipurush, and it remains to be seen whether the film will hold up during the weekdays. This is Prabhas’ fifth film to gross over $2 million in the United States alone.
“Adipurush continues to mesmerize audiences worldwide, surpassing expectations with a bumper opening of ₹140 CR on Day 1, it adds ₹100 CR on Day 2, taking the total collection to a phenomenal ₹240 CR in just two days! Jai Shri Ram”

Subpar VFX and Story-telling
Meanwhile, audiences have come up with the slogan #BanAdipurush on Twitter as the movie has had a huge downplay on the story-telling and VFX. This re-telling of Valmiki’s Ramayana is directed by Om Raut. Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Kriti Sanon star in pivotal roles. Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage play the supporting characters. The massive budget film has been a disappointment to the audience with the subpar VFX and portrayal of various characters in the film that has grazed the religious and mythical sentiments of the audience. The team had to postpone the film for a few months while they addressed audience issues in the department following the release of the first trailer.
The historical inaccuracies also paved the way for the changing in dialogues. T-Series also released a statement, “Team Adipurush, with regard to Public Opinion, Revamps Dialogues for a Unifying Film Experience, valuing public and audience input.” The conversations are being revised with the CBFC’s input and suggestions.” The dialogue though promised to be changed, the people are still skeptical about the movie as a whole.
Adipurush Banned in Kathmandu
Despite all the efforts, Adipurush is being banned in Kathmandu, following the controversial dialogue regarding the birthplace of Sita. Kathmandu’s Mayor, Balen Shah has given the makers three days to rectify this mistake or else lead to its ban. The Kathmandu authorities have taken immediate action to stop screening the movie starting this Monday. Though the film has a steady gain throughout the box office worldwide it still lacks audience support. There are debates based on the attire of the portrayal of characters every day. This also follows with the hashtag #BanAdipurush throughout social media outlets.
The future of the movie depends on the response of the audience in the coming days. The increasing controversies day by day is a falter in this aspect. Regardless of the box office success the film is not immune to the backlash and is still recovering from the heavy criticisms by the audience worldwide. The fate of Adipurush can only be determined by the audience’s turn-up in the coming days.
