Cyclone Yaas will intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in the next 24 hours

The Meteorological Department of India stated on Monday morning (May 24, 2021) that Cyclone Yaas will intensify into a “severe cyclone storm” in the next 24 hours and has issued rain warnings to West Bengal and Odisha.

They added: “It is very likely that it will slowly move north-northwest, intensify into a strong cyclone storm in the next 24 hours, and further intensify into a strong cyclone storm in the next 24 hours.”

Rainfall Warning due to Cyclone Yaas:

  • West Bengal: 

The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that May 25 Yaas will be in Medinipur, the southern and northern districts of the 24th district of Parganas, Howrah Jagram, Medinipur, Howrah, Kolkata, Nadia, Bankura, Purulia. Heavy rains may occur on May 26 in the Murshidabad, Malda, and Dakshin Dinajpur areas. 

  • Sikkim: 

On May 27th, heavy rain or very heavy rain is expected to occur in remote areas of Marda and Darjeeling, Dinajpur, Kal Lempong, Jalpaiguri, and Sikkim, while Bankura, Prulia, There will be heavy rains in parts of Bad Haman, Bilbon, and Murshidabad.

 

  • Odisha: 

IMD predicts that there will be small to moderate rainfall in many remote areas of the southern coast of Odisha on May 24 and large to heavy rainfall in the northern coastal areas on May 25. On May 26, the rain will be heavy in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Mayurbhanj, and very strong in some places in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, and Keonjhar. On May 27, there may be heavy rains in remote areas of the northern state of Odisha. 

  • Jharkhand:

IMD stated that in remote areas of Jharkhand, light to moderate rains would occur in most areas, and there will be very heavy rains in southeast Jharkhand in May. April 26 and May 27.

  • Bihar:

 According to IMD, on May 27, in remote areas of Bihar, there will be light to moderate rains and heavy to very heavy rains in most places.

  • Assam and Meghalaya: 

IMD said that from May 26 to 27, most areas would see light to moderate rainfall, while in remote areas of Assam in Meghalaya, Very heavy rainfall occurs.
