Airtel successfully tested 5G in India with the help of a telecom network provider Mavenir. It was a 3500 MHz band test spectrum and it was done in Mohali, Chandigarh and Bangalore.

Bharti Airtel did India’s first ever 5G in Chandigarh, Mohali and Bangalore. Airtel partnered with Mavenir (a telecom network software provider) to test 5G in India.
Testing for the 5G was done in Chandigarh and Mohali and some test was also done in Bangalore. The testing was done on open radio access network (Open RAN) based on the 3500MHz spectrum for the 5G.
The result of the testing showed an internet speed of over 1GB per second with the equipment provided and configured.
Bharti Airtel said after testing that the partnership would India in adopting a more open architecture tech shift to innovate new tech in India.
Open RAN allows service providers the ability to mix and match hardware and software to get the best possible results.
Open RAN helps provide a wider scalable network and allows customers to choose whatever they want and not stuck or options with few network providers.
Recently Bharti Airtel indicated that they will roll out more Open RAN network for purpose of commercial use like the how Mavenir provide.
Open Ran helps in launching the next generation of service providers and provides vendors to have multiple networks on the shelf to show.
Airtel’s biggest rival Jio is also testing the Open RAN network and they partnered with Qualcomm and NXP for the testing.
Jio is also trying to move to more Open RAN network services to reach further. Jio also will test 5G with an Open RAN network.
Currently only Airtel, Jio and Vodafone are doing a 5G test in India to test and demonstrate the Open RAN network and how it will lead to new innovation in the network field.
