Like the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Samajwadi Party’s campaign is also week-long, but the party has opted to launch it on August 9 to coincide with the August Kranti Diwas.
A Samajwadi Party leader said that the party observes August Kranti Diwas every year and party leaders hoist the tricolor in their homes and party offices on the occasion, marking the beginning of the Quit India Movement against British rule by Mahatma Gandhi in 1942.
He said that this time the party has decided to run a week-long tricolor campaign on the occasion of 75th Independence Day.
Know about the appeal of BSP National President Mayawati
Bahujan Samaj Party national president Mayawati also appealed to the people of the country to hoist the tricolor in their homes to express happiness on the completion of 75 years of India’s independence.
Asked whether Samajwadi Party is following Bharatiya Janata Party in running a tricolor campaign to display patriotism, party spokesperson Abdul Hafiz Gandhi said, “No particular party has a copyright on patriotism.
It is everyone’s right to express love and respect for the country. Since it is a special occasion of 75 years of independence, the Samajwadi Party has run a week-long program.
Party members will reach out to the people with an appeal to hoist the national flag.
Sources said that on July 31, the SP had written a letter to its office bearers and district units asking them to prepare for its tricolor campaign.
“The party leaders will have to send photographs of their participation in the implementation of the campaign and program to the central office of the party. The party is monitoring the campaign,” said a party source.
“If we stay away from celebrating 75 years of independence and the tricolor, BJP will call us anti-nationals and accuse us of not respecting the sacrifices of our freedom fighters,” he said.
BJP has already been accusing the SP of withdrawing the cases of terrorists accused in every election. These ceremonies will be our response to such allegations,” the leader said.
The wording of BSP leader Faizan Khan
Regarding Mayawati’s appeal, Bahujan Samaj Party leader Faizan Khan said, ‘BSP has always respected the national flag.
Khan also said, “Instead of making such appeals to the common people, the Bharatiya Janata Party should have asked the RSS to hoist the national flag at its headquarters.
“He also said that if other parties stay away from campaigning for the tricolor, the BJP will try to project itself as a “patriotic political party”.
