Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi starrer OMG 2 has been a center of discussion for the past few days due to the former role in the movie, ever since the makers dropped the teaser, the movie started to revolve in controversy. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) just ten days before the release granted an ‘A’- Adults only certificate from the censor board.
CBFC has advised ‘no cuts’ but they have recommended more than 25 modifications in the film. The film is written and directed by Amit Rai, and it also features key roles for Yami Gautam Dhar, Govind Namdev, and Arun Govil. OMG 2 will release on its desired date i.e. on August 11. The trailer is expected to release in the next two days.
OMG 2 was initially planned to release on the Digital platform of Jio Cinema, but Akshay Kumar convinced the makers to have a theatrical release. The film was struggling to get approval from CBFC for the past two weeks and the promotion and marketing campaign for the film were put on hold. Now that the sequel has got the green signal from CBFC, the makers can move forward with an aggressive marketing campaign ahead of its release.
CBFC Asks for Change in Akshay’s Character
The CBFC suggested the makers change Akshay’s character in the movie, portraying the character of Lord Shiva. The Board’s Examining Committee (EC) submitted the movie to the Revising Committee (RC) after viewing it because the latter didn’t want to take any chances given the movie’s religious overtones. The CBFC has recently come under fire from some audiences for approving films with religious overtones like “Adipurush” and Oppenheimer”. Which angered those audiences.
OMG, 2 tells the story of Kanti Sharana Mudgal, a stalwart devotee of Lord Shiva who lives in the Pilgrimage center of Ujjain and relates his experience. At a critical moment, his deity comes in front of him and aids him in getting through the challenges he faces. The film also talks about sex education in school and has a masturbation scene.
There are numerous beeps and cuts that involve Hinduism-related phrases like Yoni, Paap, Shiv Ling, and others. This could be the first movie with a renowned Hindu deity playing the main character to receive an adult-only rating.
ANI reports that despite all the preparation, OMG 2 recently ran into problems when a monk from the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain demanded that scenes shot there be deleted. Mahesh Sharma, a priest at the Mahakaleshwar temple, declared “ The censor board has awarded the movie Oh MY God 2 an ‘A’ certificate is only available for films with adult material.
Additionally, the priest remarked, “We urge that some shots that were shot in the Mahakal temple be erased since they may offend viewers’ religious sensibilities. We will start to protest across the nation if our demand is not met.
Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 Failed to Get U/A Certificate
Additionally, it is said that Akshay Kumar and the team tried very hard to get a U/A certificate, but that effort required numerous adjustments and cuts. The committee had made many edit requests for U/A certification, which the source claimed hampered the storyline of the movie The film’s creator decided to proceed with adults-only classification because they didn’t want to compromise the film’s integrity.
They have adhered to the changes recommended by the board and will proceed with an “A” grade, giving the audience an unaltered storytelling experience.
Akshay Kumar’s last movie which received an ‘A” certificate was Desi Boyz in 2011, and now after 12 years, his upcoming film OMG 2 has been granted with ‘A’ certificate. The movie has 2 hours, 36-minute runtime.
OMG 2 is ready to hit the screen on August 11, clashing with the release of Gadhar 2, the most awaited film of the county along with OMG 2.
