Despite having a Canadian passport, actor Akshay Kumar revealed that he pays all of his taxes in India.
The actor Akshay Kumar was recently questioned about his citizenship in an interview. He has had a string of unsuccessful films this year, including Bachchhan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan. The fact that Akshay is a Canadian citizen is frequently brought up when he advocates for national causes on social media.
Akshay talked openly about it in a conversation with Lallantop and acknowledged that, despite having Canadian citizenship, he pays taxes in India.
“I am an Indian, from India, and will always be so,” Akshay declared. He claimed that when he received his Canadian citizenship, he was considering relocating to Canada because his films had ceased performing. “My films weren’t performing well a few years ago. I decided that I should definitely relocate abroad and work there because nearly 14–15 of my films had failed,” he added.
According to Akshay, one of his pals lives in Canada and advised him to move there if he is unsuccessful in India. “Many people relocate there for employment, but they remain Indians. I also reasoned that I should take action if fate is not on my side in this situation. I went there, filled out an application, and got the citizenship,” he claimed. Soon after this, according to Akshay, he started to have professional success once more, and he made the decision to remain. Then, he continued, “I thought that I would stay in my country and never thought of leaving again.”
Although he has a Canadian passport, Akshay acknowledged that he pays taxes in India. “I have a passport, he declared. Describe the passport. It is a document required for international travel. I am an Indian, so I pay all of my taxes here. I can choose to pay it there as well, but I choose to pay them here. I labour for my nation. Many people have the right to express themselves publicly. To them, all I would like to say is that I am and always will be an Indian.”
Akshay earlier disclosed that he was implementing an Indian passport application. He declared, “I have now applied for the passport,” at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2019. “It sucks that I constantly have to provide proof that I am an Indian.”
Akshay issued a statement on Twitter in 2019 in which he discussed his citizenship in Canada. “I truly don’t understand the unwarranted curiosity and animosity surrounding my citizenship,” he said at the time. I have never tried to hide or deny that I am a Canadian citizen. The fact that I haven’t been to Canada in the past seven years is also accurate. I am an Indian citizen who works and pays all my taxes in India. I find it upsetting that my citizenship issue is frequently brought into needless debate, a subject that is personal, legal, non-political, and of little concern to others, despite the fact that I have never required to prove my love for India to anyone over the years. I would like to continue making a tiny contribution to the initiatives I support to strengthen India.”
