Nupur Sharma’s allegedly demeaning comments about the prophet’s marriage incensed many Muslim nations and organizations including Al Qaeda
Al Qaeda in the Subcontinent (AQIS) threatened suicide bombings in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai and Delhi to protect the “honor of the Prophet”.
The terrorist group reacted as the former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and its Delhi wing media head Naveen Jindal made offensive comments on Prophet Mohammed in a TV debate. Referring to the comments, Al Qaeda published a threat letter published on 6 June.
The letter read that the “flagbearers of Hindutva” have slandered their Prophet and his noble wife in the vilest way. This has led to feelings of retribution and revenge in the heart of every Muslim.
“We warn every audacious and impudent foul mouth of the world, especially the Hindutva terrorists occupying India that we should fight for the dignity of our Prophet, we should urge others to fight and die for the honour of our Prophet, we should kill those who affront our Prophet and we should bind explosives with our bodies and the bodies of our children to blow away the ranks of those who dare to dishonour our Prophet.”
“The saffron terrorists should now await their end in Delhi, Bombay, UP and Gujarat. They should find refuge neither in their homes nor in their fortified army cantonments.”
The Nupur Sharma Controversy
Nupur Sharma partook in a debate to discuss the Gyanvapi mosque issue on a TV news channel. She said that since Muslims were mocking Hindutva by calling shiva linga a fountain, so their religious scriptures should be mocked as well. She then goes on to make a controversial remark about the marriage of Prophet Mohammed.
Later, an Alt News anchor, Zubair added the video on Twitter and drew attention to those comments.
Naveen Jindal also tweeted against the Prophet, supporting Sharma.
Though Nupur Sharma apologised on Twitter later, both the well-known faces were ousted from the party.
Several Islamic countries of the world have also slammed India and the government for the remark.
On the other hand, the party’s dismissal of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal has enraged its supporters. They believed that the government had given in to the Arab world.
What is Al Qaeda
It is a multinational militant Sunni Islamic extremist network founded by Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam, and several other Arab volunteers during the Soviet-Afghan War. Osama bin Laden had been one of the deadliest and most wanted terrorists in the world.
Indian Central Intelligence and Investigative Agencies are on high alert since the threat. The agencies have also ordered the states to maintain caution.
