On March 18, 2022, Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly played in the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles at the All-England Championships.
Beating 14-21, 22-20, and 21-15, the World No. 2 Korean players, Lee Sohee and Shin Seungchan, in the deciders, the two Indians reserved their spot for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Hailing from Cherupuzha, Kerala, Treesa Jolly is an 18-year-old Indian badminton player. Earlier in 2022, the player won the Super 100 women’s doubles title in Odisha, along with partner Gayatri Gopichand.
Pullela Gayatri Gopichand was born in 2003, the daughter of former Indian badminton players P.V.V. Lakshmi and Pullela Gopichand. Her team won the gold medal in the 2019 South Asian Games, along with the silver she won in the singles.
Prior to facing the Korean World Champions in the quarter-finals, the 18-year-olds had defeated the Olympic Champions from Indonesia, Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, in a strong match in the pre-quarters.

Sharing their experience after the matches, the players said they were not under pressure and just tried to put up a good fight for the opponents.
Jolly said, “We didn’t have any pressure. That was the main thing.” They are good attacking players, and we didn’t play that much, but we gave our best”. “We lost the first game and were down 18-20 in the second game, but I just thought we just had to fight,” said Gopichand.
In another quarter-finals that lasted for 47 minutes, India’s 5th seeds, Satwisksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, failed to make it to the semi-finals, going down 22-21, 17-21, fighting against the Indonesian top seeds, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sunjaya Sukamuljo, on March 18th, 2022.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will now face the Chinese pair, Zhang Shu Xian and Zheng Yu, on March 19th, 2022, in the semi-finals of the Super 100 to reach the final round of the tournament. The match will be held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
