Activist firm Alta Fox Capital Management penned a letter to Hasbro persuading the toy company to alter its business tactics. The investor hopes for a spin-off of the Wizards of the Coast unit as one of the changes, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Alta Fox Capital Management holds a 2.5% stake, a valuation of approximately $325 million. The company intends on nominating five directors along with rebranding Hasbro’s “brand blueprint” strategy.
The letter addressed to shareholders outlines a proposal that emphasises on increasing profits of its products and entertainment divisions. Spinning off Wizards of the Coast and virtual gaming, such as the franchise Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, would elevate Hasbro’s share price by $100.
Hasbro stated that it has held discussions with Alta Fox and may review the nominees “in due course.”
Alta Fox’s letter was sent out a week after the Hasbro filed a significant fourth-quarter earnings, despite the toy company predicting that it doesn’t expect robust growth in the following years.
Hasbro shares closed at approximately $97 on Wednesday, a fall of 23% from the standard high of $126.87 per share achieved prior to the pandemic. Alta Fox believes that double valuation of Hasbro is possible by spinning off Wizards.
The letter states that Wizards has a unique growth margin and valuation profile in comparison with Hasbro’s other segments. Currently, Hasbro’s business techniques for managing brands is a blueprint formulated by late CEO Brian Goldner, who passed away suddenly last October. His draft implemented storytelling to uplift the sale of toys.Â
Under the supervision of Goldner, Hasbro expanded from toys and games to films, gaming and television. Toy franchises Transformers and My Little Pony have fueled entertainment content. The firm is working on a production of the Dungeons and Dragons film and TV show through eOne. It has also furthered into publishing, merchandise and accessories.
