Australia wicket-keeper batter Alyssa Healy scored 129 runs in Wellington on Wednesday morning.
Australia and West Indies faced each other in first semi-final of ICC Women’s World Cup at Basin Reserve in Wellington. Alyssa Healy opened with Racheal Haynes, blasted 129 runs against the fourth semi-finalist to progress in the finals on April 3.
After the painful exit of Aussies women in World Cup 2017 semi-finals, Aussies have been attacking the whole season, stayed unbeaten and finished as table toppers.
Early this morning, Windies won the toss and opted to bowl first. Aussies openers Healy and Haynes walked in like ‘death of the bowlers’ and crushed their bowling line-up with 216 runs partnership. With Healy beating 129 runs in 107 balls, Haynes supported her from the other end with 85 off 100.
Australia posted a total of 305-3 in 45 overs after the match was shortened. With Healy’s blistering knock, Beth Mooney took a brilliant catch during Aussies fielding and rattled Windies early in run chase. Healy scored her first hundred in the World Cup, joining her fellow teammates Haynes and captain Meg Lanning. The last time she scored a century was in 2019.
She started slow by making 11 off 29, later went on to make 89 runs in 62 deliveries. With 17 fours and a six in her 129, Healy showed class and experience on field against Windies. Haynes wicket fell soon after Healy’s exit. Mooney (43 not out) and Lanning (26 not out) guided the team to a big total.
