Anil Vij was supposed to give a welcoming speech, then Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, would speak, and then Amit Shah would give the guest lecture
Anil Vij, the home minister for Haryana, found himself in an unpleasant condition during a brief address at an event hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at Surajkund, Haryana, on Thursday because Union Home Minister Amit Shah interrupted him four times throughout it.
The MHA on Thursday, began a two-day chintan shivir (brainstorming session) on internal security in Surajkund, in Faridabad. The event, which would be chaired by Amit Shah and include topics related to law and order and national security, was attended by the chief ministers of 10 states as well as the home ministers and top police officials from every state. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at the gathering.
Vij was supposed to give a welcoming speech, then Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, would speak, and then Amit Shah would give the guest lecture.
Vij, however, seemed to be giving an electoral speech when the session started and he started speaking. Vij started by thanking Amit Shah for making time available for the event, which was, incidentally, conceptualised by Amit Shah and organised by MHA.
Further, he went into a great detail about Haryana’s glorious past, its role in the Green Revolution, the Olympic performances of its men and women, the infrastructural facilities being built for sports by the state government, and how the minister himself holds darbar every week to hear the problems of the common man. Internal security concerns seemed tangential to the speech, as seen by remarks about how incompetent police officers are disciplined.
Amit Shah, who was sitting on a horseshoe-shaped table with three chairs in front of him, listened closely but also showed signs of discomfort as the speech dragged on and the minister appeared to lose track of time. Shah then asked the minister to end his speech by sending him a chit.
However, Vij did not appear to have paid any attention to it as he spoke for a further minute. At this Amit Shah turned on his microphone and then Vij was instructed to end the conversation by Shah and tapped it. Still, Vij didn’t seem to get the point.
Then Shah spoke,, “Anil ji, you were given five minutes. It has been eight and a half minutes since you last spoke. Please make your point. Such lengthy lectures are inappropriate here. Keep it short”, he added.
Vij, then asked Shah for a few extra seconds to finish his argument because he still had one to make. Shah gave way, but Vij continued his lengthy list of accomplishments. Shah now took the microphone and angrily said, “Anil ji, kripaya smapt karein. Aise nahi chal payega” (English translation- Anil ji, please finish it. Khatam karein. This cannot continue).
Now that the discussion was coming to a close, Vij attempted to make some closing words when Shah stopped him and stated, “Ho gaya. Aage badhaya jaaye karyakram. (This is over. Let the program proceed further.)”
