Her entry begs the issue of why the BJP was so eager to take her under its wing.
Aparna Yadav, more known as Mulayam Singh Yadav‘s daughter-in-law than as a Samajwadi Party representative, joined the BJP on Wednesday, January 19, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh party chairman Swatantra Dev Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya. She is the wife of Prateek Yadav, Mulayam’s son from his second marriage to Sadhana Gupta.
Aparna Yadav’s struggle
Aparna yadav has yet to taste political victory, having lost the 2017 elections on an SP ticket. Her admission begs the issue of why the BJP was so eager to take her under its wing. The welcoming speeches given by Maurya and Singh imply that her USP in the eyes of the BJP is being Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law.
Mulayam’s daughter was invited to the party, according to Singh. During the Samajwadi Party’s administration, physical power was so mighty that no one in western UP was safe, whether a farmer or a daughter. At dusk, everyone would shut their doors.
“Even if the police caught someone for hooliganism, ‘Miyan Jan’ would quickly intercede,”
Singh claimed. The departure indicates that everything is not well inside the great Yadav family, which split again, as it was in 2017. In 2017, Akhilesh Yadav was accused of not keeping his flock together; the BJP is attempting to deploy the same technique again.
“Akhilesh Yadav has failed to govern his own family.” “He was a failure as CM and as a Member of Parliament,”
Maurya stated. claims to have brought development to the state, yet he lacks the bravery to fight from the location he claims to have developed.”
Aparna Yadav: Not a Knight, Bishop, or Rook, but a Rookie
At most, Aparna yadav might be classified as a political newcomer. The public notion of the BJP as “invincible” shattered when three Cabinet ministers from Yogi Adityanath‘s ministry joined the SP shortly after the poll was announced.
Swami Prasad Maurya, who leapt from the ship, is a political weather-vane. Before joining the BJP in 2017, he was a BSP politician. Second, the BJP did not want to give away that its “dominant” image was beginning to wane.
As a result, a counter-action was required, and Aparna was the solution. The quarreling Yadav clan has just had a temporary respite—Shivpal Yadav has returned to the Yadav scion’s protection. In reality, Aparna yadav played a crucial role in the previous quarrel that ended in Shivpal’s departure.
Akhilesh had accused Shivpal of favouring his stepbrother, which sparked the antagonism.
The BJP’s reputation may improve, but it may lose its seat
Aparna yadav is the daughter of a journalist and is not well-known for her political acumen. She had previously claimed the Lucknow Cantt seat but had refused a ticket. She had lost the election after being handed a party ticket at the suggestion of patriarch Mulayam.
Family feuds may be in the open today, but the SP as a party has nothing to lose by Aparna’s desertion. The BJP has nothing to gain as well. Aparna has sought re-election to the BJP from the Lucknow Cantt constituency, where Brahmin votes dominate the caste balance.
Although there are many Brahmins from the hills in the area, Aparna yadav comes from a Thakur family. Being a Yadav is not an additional requirement for this seat. Suresh Chandra Tiwari of the BJP has won the seat twice in a row, in 2002 and 2007. Rita Bahuguna, who had defected from the Congress, won the Lucknow Cantt seat in 2017, while Aparna yadav finished second.
Bahuguna had previously won the centre on a Congress ticket in 2012. She received 50 per cent of the total vote counted as a BJP candidate in 2017, but just 38 per cent of the vote in 2012. She received 50% of the total vote counted as a BJP candidate in 2017, but just 38% of the vote in 2012 when she won the seat on a Congress ticket.
Thus, Aparna yadav’s defection may provide the BJP with a bit of reprieve, but the party requires electoral victory, which she can neither guarantee for herself nor deliver for the BJP.
