In Majority Test today, Kejriwal to prove AAP MLAs with him
Arvind Kejriwal and his party’s MLAs conducted prayers at the Mahatma Gandhi monument Rajghat last week in what appeared to be a display of power.
NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will seek a vote of confidence in the assembly today to demonstrate the support of all Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators, despite what he believes are BJP attempts to split his party and destabilize his government.
To demonstrate that the MLAs from his party would not be enticed to defect, Arvind Kejriwal claimed he intended to take the majority test. He has claimed that as part of “Operation Lotus,” or a plan to overthrow his government in Delhi, the BJP has promised each of his MLAs 20 crore to switch sides.
53 of the 62 Delhi MLAs for the AAP were present at Arvind Kejriwal’s meeting last week, which was held at his house. The remainder were basically present and accounted for, according to Mr. Kejriwal, who afterward accompanied the MLAs to Rajghat, the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial.
“I’ve heard they’re attempting to buy over 40 MLAs. I’m relieved that no MLA has caved down “After visiting Rajghat, Mr. Kejriwal made the statement.
In order to “pray for the defeat of the BJP’s Operation Lotus,” Mr. Kejriwal claimed he went to Rajghat. The AAP claims that the BJP is planning “Operation Lotus” to overthrow its government in a manner similar to what happened in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
Manish Sisodia, his deputy, allegedly stated that the BJP had offered to “close all cases” against him if he defected from the AAP.
In a case involving suspected irregularities and corruption in Delhi’s alcohol policy, which was implemented earlier this year and then reversed, the CBI recently conducted a raid at Mr. Sisodia’s residence. The CBI’s FIR on violations of the liquor regulation names Mr. Sisodia as the first of 15 accused. Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate has accused him of money laundering.
The FIR is based on a reference from Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who said that AAP brought the Excise Policy into effect “only to assist private liquor barons for financial benefits to those at the top levels of the government.”
Mr. Saxena has cited a number of irregularities in the way the Delhi government operates. He has been accused by the AAP of seeking to sabotage the center’s development initiatives.
The AAP claims that Mr. Kejriwal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will face off in the general election of 2024, and it accuses the BJP of abusing its power to try to derail the AAP leader due to his expanding popularity and “commendable” work in the health and education sectors.
AAP has been accused of attempting to deflect attention from the corruption in its government, which the BJP has refuted. The party also disputed AAP’s assertion that it would be the primary opposition to the BJP in the general election of 2024, saying ” AAP made tall claims earlier too but could not stand before PM Modi.”
In the 70-member Delhi assembly, AAP has 62 MLAs. The BJP now has eight and needs 28 more to reach a majority.
AAP MLAs Recent Raj Ghat Visit
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his MLAs visited Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial in Raj Ghat on 25 August and offered prayers for the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Operation Lotus’ amid the ongoing speculations around Aam Aadmi Party MLAs being untraceable.
