In the past few decades, India has undergone a radical transformation – from being only a consumer of technology to becoming a producer of it. With a renewed focus on research and development, India is now at the forefront of innovation in various sectors such as renewable energy, steel, rail transportation, and defense. This shift in perspective that has taken place over the last eight years is a testament to India’s determination to become a global leader in technology.
The event organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) saw the participation of Communication Ministers and senior government officials from South Asia. The discussions revolved around the latest advancements in the telecommunications sector, regulatory concerns, and the role of governments in promoting innovation and growth. One of the key topics addressed was the challenges faced by the telecom industry, highlighting the need for constant innovation and adaptation to stay ahead in this ever-evolving industry.
The Conclave concluded with a unanimous agreement among participants to prioritize collaboration and investment in digital innovation. The discussions emphasized the critical role that governments, the business community, and society play in creating a conducive environment for this innovation.
As mentioned during the Conclave, sustained investment in broadband infrastructure, education, and digital skills development is necessary to achieve these goals. The launch of the smartphone app “Call Before u Dig” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the opening ceremony of ITU’s Regional Office and Innovation Center is yet another step towards promoting safe digging practices in the telecommunications industry.
This innovative app provides a quick and easy way for individuals and companies to check for underground utility lines before starting any digging work. Doing so, not only helps prevent accidents but also minimizes the risk of service disruptions. The app’s user-friendly interface and real-time updates make it an ideal tool for everyone involved in excavation work.
