The brother-in-law of Atiq Ahmed, who supported the Umesh Pal gunmen, was apprehended in Meerut.
Akhlaq Ahmed, Atiq Ahmed’s brother-in-law, was detained by the Prayagraj Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal.
In a coordinated operation, the Prayagraj Police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) detained Akhlaq Ahmed, the brother-in-law of Atiq Ahmed, in relation to the murder of Umesh Pal. According to the authorities, Akhlaq Ahmed played a significant part in funding Umesh Pal’s shooters, who were a crucial witness in the 2005 assassination of BSP Lawmaker Raju Pal.
On February 24, Umesh Pal was fatally shot in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Raju Pal, a BSP lawmaker, was murdered in 2005, and Atiq Ahmed is the primary suspect. He is also charged with the death of Raju Pal’s key witness, Umesh Pal.
Akhlaq Ahmed, a resident of Meerut, has previously been questioned by police several times over the murder of Umesh Pal. He is currently being held in Meerut. Police sources claim that after killing Umesh Pal and Asad, Atiq Ahmed’s son, the shooter eluded capture with the aid of Akhlaq.
Atiq Ahmad, a gangster-turned-politician, and two other people were found guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and given life sentences of solitary confinement. The court exonerated Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, Ahmed’s brother, along with six other defendants.
Despite the fact that more than 100 cases have been filed against the former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP over the years, this is Ahmed’s first conviction.
For the court hearing, Atiq Ahmed was transported by road from the Sabarmati jail to Prayagraj. Prior to the hearing, he was held in the Naini jail.
He was sent to Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad under heavy security measures the day after being found guilty in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case.
THE UMESH PAL KIDNAPPING
Raju Pal was assassinated on January 25, 2005, and Umesh Pal, a member of the zila panchayat at the time, told the police he had witnessed the crime.
Umesh Pal asserted that he was abducted on February 28, 2006, under fear of force, since he refused to back down and submit to Ahmed’s pressure. A FIR was filed on July 5, 2007, naming Ahmed, his brother, and four other people.
On July 5, 2007, a FIR was filed against Ahmed, his brother, and nine other people. The 11 people were named in a chargesheet that the police had filed. Afterwards, one of them passed away.
Also, when they were both in prison, Ahmad and Ashraf allegedly planned to kill Umesh Pal.
Murder of Umesh Pal
Umesh Pal was shot and killed in front of his home in Prayagraj on February 24. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf are charged with participating in a plot to assassinate Umesh Pal while they were both incarcerated.
Atiq Ahmed is a five-time MLA and a former Phulpur MP for the Samajwadi Party. More than 100 criminal cases contain his name.
Raju Pal, a BSP politician, was murdered in 2005, and Atiq Ahmed is the primary suspect. After defeating former MP Atiq Ahmed’s younger brother Khalid Azim to win the Allahabad (West) Assembly seat in his first election, lawmaker Raju Pal was assassinated a few months later.
