Several Muslim girl students throughout Karnataka boycotted lectures and exams after the Karnataka High Court issued an interim ruling on Tuesday, March 15 2022, banning the hijab and saffron shawl in colleges where uniforms are required.   Many Muslim female students are worried after Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh confirmed on Monday that the government would not conduct re-exams for absentees. Many students had skipped the practical exams in the hope of a favourable outcome.  Nagesh said that ‘whatever the reason for the student absenting themselves from the examination may be, they will not be allowed to give the exam again.’ …

In the last 24 hours, India reported 1,581 new coronavirus cases, bringing the overall number of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,10,922. According to data from the Union Ministry of Health, the number of active cases has dropped to 23,913 today.  The active cases comprise 0.06 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.74 per cent, it showed.  Active cases account for 0.06 percent of infections. Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded to be at 98.74 per cent nationally.   Over the span of 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload was reduced by 2,741 cases.  …

Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will officially visit India for the first time on Saturday, 2 April 2022, on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders initially met last October on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, when PM Modi asked PM Bennett to visit India on an official basis, according to the statement. This visit will emphasize the significant relationship between the two nations and their leaders, as well as commemorate the 30th anniversary of Israel-India diplomatic relations. In its move to expand Covid-19 vaccination coverage, India has started vaccination of children from ages 12-14 from today onwards. The requirement of co-morbidity for people aged 60 and above to have a preventive dose has been eliminated, and anyone over the age of 60 can now receive booster shots.
