Rajasthan government recently introduced an amendment to the Compulsory Registration of Marriages Act. The amendment sparked debates across the country – journalists and citizens accused the government of encouraging child marriages. The last year has seen many disruptions to the Indian economy, the primary reason being the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. Wednesday, the Maharashtra cabinet approved the decision to reimpose the system of electing multiple councillors or corporators from wards in all municipal corporations and councils in the state. Maha Vikas Aghadi government hopes to firm up its hold on urban local bodies across the state. Currently, the state follows a single-member ward system. A recently released Facebook internal research report shows that Instagram negatively impacts the mental health of teen users. Top officials from the company were aware of the photo and video sharing app’s negative impacts, particularly on teenage girls. Some of the problems are specific to Instagram and not to social media platforms in general.
