Dalit woman in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu have been continuously raped by eight individuals including two DMK members and three minor school students. The victim was reportedly a Christian Dalit woman of 22-year-old working in a garment factory who was raped for around eight months. The perpetrators sexually assaulted, filmed and threatened to leak the intimate videos and pictures of the survivor. The DMK general secretary, Duraimurugan, suspended five DMK executives from the Theni, Tirupur, and Nilgiri districts for allegedly acting against the party’s coalition understanding. Kerala Students Union (KSU) on Wednesday took out to the streets to protest against the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) after their attack on Tuesday on the former’s leaders. The Karnataka high court on Tuesday upholds the decision of the government to ban the wearing of hijab inside educational institutions. The court released a 129-page verdict quoting passages from Quran and other Islam books to substantiate its decision on wearing a hijab is not considered an essential religious practice. And the court also held that wearing a hijab inside classroom premises would counter the soul of the constitution, “positive secularism”.
