Baba Ramdev sparks controversy for his sexist remark over women’s attire ‘Women Look Good Even If They Don’t Wear Anything’ at a Yoga Science Camp and Women’s Meeting in Thane.
Baba Ramdev who is an Indian Yoga Guru, a successful businessman, and the face of Patanjali also known as Baba or Swami has indulged himself in a recent controversy over women’s attire at a yoga training program in Thane.
Baba Ramdev created massive unrest on social media and has put himself at the center of the fuss and protests against him.
At a Yoga Science Camp and Women’s Meeting in Thane organized by Patanjali Yogpeeth and Mumbai Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Baba Ramdev said “Women look good in saris, women look good in salwar suits like Amruta Ji, women also look good even if they don’t wear anything”.
The controversial statement on women’s attire was made by him at the training camp when he interacted with the women who have brought saris from home but didn’t get enough time to change into them because of the back-to-back program.
Observing this Ramdev commented that there was no problem if they didn’t get time to switch to saris from their Yoga attires because the meeting started soon after the training camp and they could do it after getting home, this statement led him to make his controversial remark.
Baba Ramdev was on the stage with many prominent personalities, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son, Thane MP Shrikant Shinde, and Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, among other VIPs.
Ramdev Slammed For His Remark
His assertion brought in myriad criticisms calling him “sexist” including the fact that he made such a remark in front of Maharashtra Deputy CM’s wife Amrutha Fadnavis. People took to social media to protest and demanded an apology from him.
On Saturday, Rupali Chakankar, the Maharashtra State Women Commission’s chairperson served a notice to Baba Ramdev asking him to clarify his stand in three days regarding his remark on women’s attire.
Objecting to the remark, chief Swati Maliwal, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) demanded Ramdev’s apology for insulting women. “Swami Ramdev’s remarks on women in front of the wife of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra are indecent and condemnable. All women have been hurt by this statement Baba Ramdev Ji should apologize to the country for this statement!”
Swati took to Twitter to reprimand Yoga Guru’s remark about women’s clothing and mandated an apology.
His remark was rebuked by considerable opposition parties. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) staged a protest condemning Ramdev’s comment and garlanded his photo with a pair of chappals.
“Why Amruta Fadnavis did not raise a protest when the remark was made by Ramdev while sharing the stage with him?” asked the leader of the Shiv Sena, Sanjay Raut. “The government remains silent when the Governor makes an insulting remark on Shivaji when Karnataka chief minister threatens to take Maharashtra villages to Karnataka, and now when BJP campaigner Ramdev insults women. Has the government kept its tongue in mortgage to Delhi?” Raut said.
Ramdev- The Centre Of Controversies
When the Pandemic hit the world, India witnessed its worst sight. People were running from one hospital to another searching for oxygen cylinders. There was a scarcity of medicines, hospital beds, medical staff, and oxygen cylinders (which became a prerequisite during Covid).
While the people were suffering from losing their loved ones, the Yoga Guru made disturbing remarks regarding oxygen. He said, “why are people rushing to hospitals for oxygen when we have it all around us”?

“God has given us free oxygen, why don’t we breathe that? How can there be a shortage when God has filled the atmosphere with oxygen? Fools are looking for oxygen cylinders. Just breathe the free oxygen. Why are you complaining about the shortage of oxygen and beds and crematoriums?” he said.
He also blamed doctors for covid deaths. These statements drew criticism from the covid patients and doctors. India’s former Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who is also a doctor, condemned his remarks and issued a statement, asking the guru to withdraw his remarks.

The government asked him to stop advertising it as no data showed it worked as a treatment. But he claimed that Coronil can work as an immunity booster.
On the occasion Of a Yoga Science Camp and Women’s Meeting in Thane, Ramdev also urged the people to remain happy and smiling, similar to Amruta to live a long life.
