Roger Binny made a strong statement moments after his election, mentioning Jasprit Bumrah as he revealed his plan of action as the new BCCI chief.
At the AGM (Annual General Meeting) of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Roger Binny was selected as the BCCI’s new President on Tuesday, after several controversies over the position. Meanwhile, Jay Shah has retained his position as BCCI’s Secretary for a second term. It’s been a hot topic that Sourav Ganguly was eager to get the position, but in vain.
Roger Binny from the very beginning has made his plans clear and areas of working well pre-determined.
Areas of Interest for Binny for ImprovementÂ
After Binny’s election as the BCCI’s new President, he told ANI the areas requiring the most attention from Binny’s side. Â
Binny pointed out the frequent injuries amongst the Indian players, especially mentioning Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury just before the T20 World Cup 2022. Bumrah is considered one of the star players in the Indian Cricket Team. Binny’s first concerns include the prevention of these kinds of injuries to the players.Â
Not just Bumrah’s injury caught the attention of the new BCCI President, Roger Binny. Also, Deepak Chahar’s injury has led to a change in the plans for the T20 World Cup.Â
Binny was not only concerned about the injury, however, but Deepak had also just recovered from an injury for which he missed most of the IPL season this year and many summer campaigns. It is Deepak’s third injury of the season.Â
As the new BCCI President, Binny said, he wants to work on the improvement of the pitches in India.
The pitches/wickets need to have a variety and life so that when the Indian team goes to play at International grounds, they’ll be quite familiar with the conditions of the pitches as the team would have faced those conditions in India beforehand.
Roger Binny’s Career SpanÂ
Roger Binny, part of the 1983 Cricket World Cup winning squad of India, was appointed on Tuesday to succeed Sourav Ganguly as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. At the BCCI AGM (Annual General Meeting) in Mumbai, the 67-year-old was chosen without opposition.Â
In the 1983 World Cup, Binny was the highest wicket-taker (18 wickets), and in the 1985 World Series Cricket Championship in Australia, he repeated this feat (17 wickets).
He has been a part of the Indian Cricket Team for 27 Tests and 72 ODIs. Roger Binny will be taking charge of the position before the ODI World Cup 2024 and has also set a clear course of his action as the new BCCI President.Â
