World Cup-winning star Ben Stokes has recalled his ODI retirement for the World Cup 2024 in India
The 2019 World Cup star who helped England to win their first-ever ODI World Cup trophy has recalled his retirement after 13 months of bidding farewell to the format. The big guy Ben Stokes had taken retirement from ODI following his workload management, and mental health, stating he couldn’t meet the physical and mental demands of the body playing 50 over format. but now he has made a U-turn on his retirement and will take part in the marquee event of the year.
Ben Stokes has been added to the squad for the ODI series against New Zealand and has also been added to the provisional squad for the world cup. England thinks the addition of Ben Stokes will enhance their chances to lift the World Cup. Moreover, He has been picked as a specialist batter in the team and not as an all-rounder.
Ben Stokes is an all-rounder but he will just be seen batting, this shows the capability of the player. He even led England to the famous Ashes series this year. Following his knee Injury, The English test captain just bowled 29 overs in the five-match series against Australia. Stokes has agreed to make a comeback on the wish of England’s management as there is no test match till 2024 January. He will continue to lead the side for England’s Test side.

England’s Squad For World Cup, Jofra Archer Misses Out
England has announced their T20 squad and ODI squad for the New Zealand Series. Josh Tongue marks his place in the T20 squad of England following his exceptional performance in the Ashes. Hundred Superstar Gus Atkinson who plays for Surrey has been picked in both squads as Skipper Jos Butler is impressed with the pace of Gus Atkinson. His average speed in Hundred is 90 mph.
Even though England was hoping for the comeback of Jofra Archer, he hasn’t been included in the squad for the New Zealand series. Jofra Archer will be travelling as a reserve to India as he hasn’t recovered from his injury yet. Josh Turner, Right arm pace bowler has also received his maiden International call-up.
The addition of Ben Stokes has left out Harry Brook from the squad. England has gone with Liam Livingstone, Dawid Maland, and Ben Stokes which doesn’t leave a place for Harry Brook in the squad. Brook has made his mark in the tests and T20s but has failed to impress in the 50-over format. He only has one good inning off three ODI internationals he has played.
Whereas on the other hand, Liam Livingstone can provide more balance to the squad as he can bowl off-spin to left-handers and leg spin to right-handers. England chose Dawid Malan as he has made most of his opportunities and made three centuries against three different oppositions.
