The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport announced the addition of a new hop-on-hop-off ( Ho-Ho AC buses ) air-conditioned bus service with the intention of making travel more convenient for tourists visiting Mumbai and increasing the number of tourists who visit the city.
The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has announced another hop-on-hop-off (Ho-Ho) air-conditioned bus service for tourists. This move was made on Sunday by officials and has the dual purpose of making travel more convenient for tourists who are in the city of Mumbai as well as increasing the number of tourists who visit the city.
Today marks the beginning of service for the buses, which also happens to be the 75th anniversary of BEST’s founding.
“Passengers can purchase tickets for Rs 150 and travel for an entire day in similar tourist buses, after alighting at any designated stop. The price of the ticket includes unlimited travel.” They also have the option of boarding one of the other buses that are traveling along the route. According to Lokesh Chandra, the General Manager of BEST, “Mumbai Darshan” will become more entertaining and convenient for tourists.
Chandra also mentioned that electric double-decker buses are very likely to be introduced in the very near future.
“The Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is something that we will be celebrating this year. The number of our newly acquired electric buses will also increase, such that by the end of the year 2024, fifty percent of our fleet will consist of electric buses, and by the end of the year 2026, all of our buses will be electric in this manner. Because BEST operates the greatest number of buses of any company in the entire country, he went on to say that going forward, the company will also have the greatest number of electric buses.
The Gateway of India and Juhu Chowpatty are both currently accessible via the Ho-Ho bus service, which also makes several stops along the way for tourists. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) will now have service provided by an additional Ho-Ho bus, which will travel to a variety of locations all over the city.
Notably, on July 15, BJP leader MLA Ashish Shelar made a request to the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, to intervene and cancel the contract awarded by the BEST for the procurement of 2,100 e-buses from Evey Trans Private Limited.
Evey Trans Private Limited was the recipient of the contract to purchase 2,100 Ho-Ho AC buses that were offered by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking. However, the Bombay High Court stated not too long ago that the procedure for submitting bids was “incorrect.”
Shelar reported that in spite of this, BEST has not yet canceled the aforementioned contract. Shelar has written a letter to the deputy chief minister in which he requests his intervention to ensure that the contract is canceled without the BEST initiating any further action with regards to the acquisition of the buses. Shelar’s goal is to get the BEST to refrain from taking any further action regarding the purchase of the buses.
He stated that “this matter is serious and as a result, the government must immediately intervene” in the situation.
According to him, it is surprising that the BEST management is still assisting the aforementioned company in obtaining the contract despite the verdict that was handed down by the Bombay High Court.
