Nordic countries claim that the undersea blasts, which damaged the Natural gas pipelines this week leading to huge methane leaks, were caused by several hundred pounds of explosives.
Russia’s attacks cause methane leaks
Russia called an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council in New York, over the attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which Norwegian researchers confirmed in their published map, has caused a huge cover of methane from the damaged pipelines to travel over the Nordic region. Putin accused the West of interfering with the Kremlin-built natural gas pipeline to Germany, however, the west strongly denied those accusations.
Back in the States, President Biden put aside Putin’s claims as insignificant and false. He said that it was deliberately done to sabotage, and that the Russians are now spreading lies.
Biden also said that the U.S. and its allies will get down to the bottom of what happened and do a full inspection of the pipelines, involving divers.
Putin was accused of distracting the world from his annexation of parts of Ukraine on Friday.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February, Russia has reduced supplies of natural gas sent to Europe. This natural gas is used for heating homes, generating electricity and running factories.
The U.S. has opposed European dependance on Russia for the two pipelines and had constantly urged Germany to put a halt on them. Leaders in Europe have accused Putin of using “Energy Blackmail” to get Europe’s support for invasion on Ukraine.
