According to BJP chief J P Nadda, the unity of the opposition is “hollow” and based on self-serving objectives. He also claims that the law will take its own course against any leaders who have joined who are facing legal issues.
BJP PRESIDENT J P Nadda announced here on Monday that 38 parties will attend the NDA conference to be held in Delhi, referring to the NDA as the perfect coalition to “serve” and “strengthen” the nation.
The NDA will convene on Tuesday after a long absence, on the same day as the Opposition unity talks in Bengaluru. In a rare press conference, Nadda cited “the positive impact of the Narendra Modi government’s schemes and policies” as the cause of the NDA’s growth.
Speaking during a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, Nadda claimed that the party lacked a leader, a platform, and the ability to make choices.
By coincidence, the NDA meeting is slated to start at 4 pm, right after the Opposition finishes its negotiations in Bengaluru.
When questioned about the NDA’s accession of several leaders, Nadda responded that “law will take its own course” and claimed that the BJP was “consistent and continuous” in pursuing its philosophy and its objective of a powerful nation.
Nadda responded to a question about whether the BJP was still “a party with a difference” by saying that while strategy is constantly evolving and dynamic, ideology and pursuing it are enduring issues. What you think is incorrect now might be right tomorrow. The ultimate objective is to support the philosophy… Would you not use Patel Nagar if Rajinder Nagar is flooded?
“It’s a coalition of parties that came together to deflect attention from the Rs 20 lakh crore in corruption that occurred under the UPA regime,” continued Nadda. In the future, they will compromise even more.
Because of the Modi administration’s emphasis on development and good governance, according to Nadda, parties wanted to join the NDA, and the BJP’s reelection in 2024 was virtually assured.
When questioned about recent party departures from the NDA, Nadda claimed that the BJP was not to blame. “And, despite their departure from the NDA, we remain close with them… “Sabka saath, sabka vikas” is our overarching goal, he added, adding that the BJP never “invite[s]” anyone to join but merely states its mission.
Nadda responded to the opposition’s allegation that the government is keeping the NDA together by utilising its investigative agencies:
“The Congress does not know anything; they do not read or study. For 25 years, there has been the NDA. Has the court thus far rejected any particular case? Which scenario saw the accused get off? These organisations are independent.
The NDA’s projection at this level follows years of widening divisions between the BJP and its partners, with the latter rebelling against the BJP’s stronghold over them. The BJP has been contacting both old and new friends, though, as the elections of 2024 are drawing near and it needs a larger pool of seats from which to choose. Since the BJP’s devastating defeat to the Congress in Karnataka, the measures have taken on a new sense of urgency.
