The politicians, who act as the quintessential of humanity, have exhibited disgrace towards the victims by releasing the culprits in the Bilkis Bano case. CK Raulji was a member of the two-member Gujarat government panel that allowed the release of the 11 convicts. The BJP’s MLA (Raulji) backed the convicts because they are Brahmins. Raji further stated that Brahmins have good Sanskaar and all the culprits reflected good traits during their imprisonment.Â
According to him, their imprisonment was clearly a ploy by someone who wanted revenge on the brahmin convicts. The 11 men were staged because they were brahmins and nothing wrong could be done by them.Â
Yet again, the government has failed to provide justice to those who have suffered. The 11 convicts of the Bilkis Bano rape case have been released after 15-odd years of imprisonment. The statement given by the BJP MLA has given a getaway card to rapists just because they are Brahmins.
The ironic stances of BJP leaders
The decision sparked nascent outrage and wrath among the citizens. Meanwhile, members of the right-wing are busy treating the rapists with sweets and garlands. On one hand, India’s Prime Minister enthusiastically cheered women’s empowerment and its outs and about in his speech, which he robustly gave on Independence Day.Â
Meanwhile, members of the same political party released the culprits who gang-raped 21-year-old Bilkis Bano while she was 5 months pregnant. The heart-wrenching incident took place during the 2002 Gujarat riots. Adding to it, seven members of her family were brutally murdered. The list includes the name of her daughter, whose head was smashed with rocks.Â
In January 2008, a special CBI court in Mumbai gave life imprisonment to the 11 culprits. The court later upheld its conviction. Regardless of that, the convicts have spent 15 years in jail, after which one of them took the plea for premature release to the Supreme Court. The court directed and placed the matter in the hands of the Gujarat government to look into the issue of remission of his sentence as per its 1992 policy on the basis of the date of his conviction. Thereafter, the government formulated a committee that took the decision to allow the release of all the convicts.
Brahmins, Muslims, opposition?
The opposition has ruthlessly exploited this situation for their own good and blamed the BJP in every way possible. “They are Brahmins, men of Good Sanskaar.” Their conduct in jail was good “: BJP MLA #CKRaulji The BJP now terms rapists as’ Men of Good Sanskar’. This is the lowest a party can ever stoop! ” Y Satish Reddy, the social media convenor of Telangana’s ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, tweeted.
According to Rahul Gandhi’s tweet, it is not the first time when BJP has held the hands of rapists. During ‘Unnao’, they worked to save the BJP MLA. ‘Kathua’- a rally in favour of rapists was done. And now BJP has released the culprits in Gujarat. These actions clearly reflect the petty mindset that BJP, as a party, has against women. Furthermore, he has put a question on the Prime Minister. He said, isn’t he afraid of such politics?
Trinamool Congress’s Mahua Moitra tweeted that the nation “had better decide whether Bilkis Bano is a woman or a Muslim”.
Meanwhile, Bano beseeched the authorities to reverse their decision and assure the safety of her family. 6000, Indian citizens who felt ignited have signed a petition for the reversal of the decision. The list includes grassroots workers and women and human rights activists. They have put forward a stance that the Supreme Court should revoke the remission of sentences for 11 convicted men. The fact that such decisions only strengthen the impunity of rapists is also put forward by the petitioners.
