A video of a BJP member of legislative (MLA) from Uttar Pradesh goes viral on social media where he has seen sighting outrageous comments on the Muslim community.
In the video, the MLA, Raghvendra Singh, is heard saying that if he gets re-elected, the Muslims will have to cast aside their skull cap (Islamic Cap) and put Tilak on the forehead.
“If I become MLA again, like Gol-topis (skull caps) have vanished, next time the miyan log (term used derogatorily for Muslims) will wear the tilak,” Singh had said.
He further said that in that so many Hindus are contesting for the legislative election in Uttar Pradesh’s Domariyaganj for the first time. He then asked will there be “Salaam” or “Jai Shri Ram.”
On receiving backlash from the internet for his anti-Muslim slur, the MLA further justifies his statement. He later said he meant it as a “conditional speech” to counter what he called “Islamic terrorism.”
In another video, he said (according to him) when Islamic terrorists were there, the Hindus were forced to wear Gol Topis “conditionally.” He is ready to sacrifice anything for Hindu pride. If Muslims try everything to defeat him, he will not stay silent.
The Uttar Pradesh Police told a news publication that they had registered a complaint against the Singh after it went viral.
The MLA won a legislative seat from eastern UP’s Domariyaganj in 2017. He won by some 200 votes defeating Samajwadi Party candidate Saiyada Khatoon.
Singh is in charge of the Hindu Yuva Vahini in Uttar Pradesh. The group is a right-wing group founded by the current Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.
Another BJP leader Rajeshwar Singh in 2014 pledged along with his colleague to wipe out Islam and Christianity from India by 31st December 2021.
Ahead of the Assembly election, the BJP Government is seen attempting to polarise the votes. Domariyaganj, which will have its poll on the sixth phase of the UP election, has a mixed population.
UP conducting the assembly election in seven phases. The first phase of the UP election took place on the 10th and 14th of February. Other phases of the election will conduct on the 20th, 23rd, 27th of February, and 3rd and 7th of March. The result will be declared on the 10th of March.
