Dwayne Johnson was praised by the audience, who believed that his abilities proved he was qualified to revive the flagging DC Extended Universe.
The World Premiere
The long-awaited DC superhero film Black Adam was revealed at a world premiere in New York on Wednesday night, allowing journalists and special guests to see what Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and director Jaume Collet-Serra were able to produce. They were among the first to see the film, and early reviews have already been posted on the internet. The story of DC’s anti-hero Black Adam has been the focus of years of work by Johnson.
In addition to Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, other actors who appeared in the film include “The Justice Society of America,” which consists of Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, who is also introduced in the film.
It was previously intended for this film to make his film debut in the 2019 “Shazam” film, but DC announced in January 2017 that he would instead be getting a solo movie, which only fueled fans’ anticipation for the character’s long-awaited entry into the DC cinematic universe.
About Black Adam
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) claims that Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian by the name of Teth-Adam who has been granted magical abilities by a wizard by the name of Shazam in the hopes that he will use them to battle evil.
Shazam is actually killed by Black Adam after becoming overpowered by them. Black Adam is sent to a distant galaxy as punishment for his betrayal and spends the following 5000 years trying to get back to Earth. When he returns, he learns that one of Shazam’s new possibilities for successors is Billy Batson, who starred in the film “Shazam,” and who becomes his eternal rival.
The “Black Adam” teaser, on the other hand, suggests that the character may have a different backstory. In the movie version, Black Adam is born a slave and put to death, but he has revived thanks to his son giving up his life to save that of his father. Black Adam makes a comeback with particular strengths that he calls a “curse.”
In the movie, Black Adam appears to have conflicted sentiments regarding his skills, in contrast to the comic books, where he revels in his newly discovered powers.
Early Reactions
Viewers applauded the movie as well as its star, Dwayne Johnson, who they felt played the ideal part for him to shine. Audiences praised him, claiming that his skills demonstrated that he was qualified to revive the flagging DCEU.
Not just The Rock received glowing reviews for his performance; Aldis Hodge and Pierce Brosnan, who played Doctor Fate and Hawkman, respectively, also received applause from the audience at the premiere.
Regarding the film itself, viewers can anticipate an exciting, action-packed experience that can overlook some minor scripting flaws.
The official review of Black Adam will be released the following week, but there have already been remarks on social media expressing initial reactions. A lot of people shared their opinions, and the critics’ responses were somewhat mixed.
Remarks from the viewers
According to ComicBook’s Brandon Davis, Johnson is perfectly suited for the role of Black Adam, and the film contains “epic, nonstop action.”
Screen Rant’s Joseph Deckelmeier was pleased with what Black Adam offered, describing Johnson as “electrifyingly vicious” and lauding the JSA’s debut on the big screen.
Austin Blake, a YouTuber, saw things differently, believing that The Rock “delivers on his promise” of taking the DCEU down a new path. While not everything works out, Blake stated that there are a couple of scenes in the film that “fans will love.”
The film, according to Germain Lussier of Gizmondo, is “a worthy new piece of the DC puzzle,” but it isn’t the masterpiece that some expected. He summarized the story as “messy in a watchable way.”
Variety’s Courtney Howard praised the film for including “a hearty number of real-world touchstones,” while also praising director Jaume Collet-Serra for laying the groundwork for “a larger, grand universe.”
