Blinken tweeted, “Met with Foreign Minister @ELiimets to discuss our strong partnership and regional security issues. We are united in calling on Russia to de-escalate and engage in diplomacy with @NATO and Ukraine.”
Blinken had previously stated in the UN Security Council (UNSC) that Russia poses a threat to peace and security. “I did not address the @UN Security Council Today to start a war but to prevent a war. The information I presented is validated by what has been unfolding in plain sight before our eyes for months,” he remarked.
In recent months, Russia has stockpiled more than 150,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders. Russia has “repeatedly derided our warnings and alarms as melodrama and nonsense,” according to Blinken while accumulating more than “150,000 troops on Ukraine’s borders, as well as the capability to undertake a huge military operation. Thousands of Russian soldiers have gathered near Ukraine’s border, raising fears that Moscow is about to invade the country. Russia has refuted claims that it wants to invade its neighbour.
