As soon as Wriddhiman Saha was kicked out of the Indian Test squad, Boria Majumdar harassed, threatened, and intimidated him.
Accused of “threatening and bullying” India wicketkeeper, Wriddhiman Saha, the BCCI has suspended journalist Boria Majumdar for two years. It has been made effective after the Apex Council approved the suggestions of the three-member fact-finding committee.
Boria Majumdar is an Indian sports writer, academic, and author who works in the field of sports journalism. The ban includes not being able to cover any games in India, not being able to interview centrally-contracted players, and not being able to access any facilities owned or run by the Indian cricket board or state units.
According to sources, the BCCI was ready to penalize Boria Majumdar after a three-person committee consisting of the cricket board’s vice-president Rajiv Shukla, treasurer Arun Dhumal, and BCCI Apex Council member Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, found him guilty of “bullying” Saha, at a meeting on Tuesday. This will further be reported to the International Criminal Court. They will ask for the journalist to not be allowed to report on international tournaments.
Hemang Amin, the interim CEO of the BCCI, sent a letter to all of the organization’s departments on Wednesday to tell them about the penalty that had been given to the journalist and to ask them to follow the decision. According to the BCCI Committee, which heard the statements of both Saha and Majumdar, “Mr. Boria Majumdar’s behavior was in the character of threatening and abusing”.
In response to the recommendations of the BCCI Committee, the Apex Council of the BCCI imposed the following sanctions: i. a 2 (two) year ban on receiving any authorization as a member of the press in any of the cricket matches (domestic and international) in India; ii. a 2 (two) year ban on acquiring any interview with any authorized player in India; and a 3 (three) year ban on access to any of the BCCI and member associations’ owned cricket centers. “
The committee reported that “Wriddhiman Saha received harassment and threats from a senior journalist Borai Majumdar.” “After all of my achievements in Indian cricket, this is what he had a face from a so-called “respected” journalist! ” Wriddhiman Saha posted on his twitter handle on February 19, 2022.
Amid Wriddhiman Saha’s exclusion from the Sri Lankan Test team, ex-Indian coach Ravi Shastri was among those who made peace with Saha, but he refused to name the journalist publicly. The person’s name was Boria Majumdar.
Boria Majumdar had previously threatened to sue Saha for defamation. Journalist Majumdar manipulated Saha and also showed photoshopped screenshots. “You did not call,” read one of the messages sent by the journalist to the player. Journalist Boria Majumdar allegedly stated that he won’t interview Saha again. Wriddhiman Saha emailed the entire BCCI timeline earlier today.
Wriddhiman Saha’s manager paid a visit to the journalist’s home on February 1, 2022, and lined up “two interviews as part of a brand-building activity,” according to his statement to the BCCI. On February 10, 2022, in advance to the IPL super auction, Majumdar sent a WhatsApp message to the player over the WhatsApp messaging service.
Several messages were received on February 13, 2022, after the signing of Saha by the Gujarat Titans on the second day of the IPL auction on that day. Majumdar sent details of his WhatsApp messages to Saha, stating that the latter had “confirmed an interview via Zoom.”
“Mr. Boria Majumdar’s anger over Mr. Wriddhiman Saha’s inability to meet his professional obligations, which resulted in Mr. Boria Majumdar expressing his displeasure with Mr. Wriddhiman Saha.” read the statement by the journalist’s lawyer.
The journalist, Boria Majumdar, had said that he had not sent any threats or subjected any aggressive behavior.
