The UK prime minister is to discuss trade deals with Indian businessmen and meet Indian Prime Minister.
Boris Jhonson, UK prime minister is on a two-day visit to India. This engagement is to begin from Thursday morning. The visit will focus on Indo-Pacific free from external pressures regarding Ukraine-Russia war. Improving bilateral trade agreements is also part of the agenda for Jhonson’s visit.
Boris Jhonson is to first visit Gujrat, Prime minster Narendra Modi’s home state on Thursday. The British premier is to visit a factory, Gujrat Biotechnology University and also have interactions with leading business men. After this he will fly back to New Delhi and have meetings with PM Modi on Friday.
With the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war there has been a shift in the world order. Earlier many foreign nations had visited India to have talks regarding India’s stance regarding the matter. Earlier when British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss had visited India, she made it clear the UK will not tell other countries what to do regarding the matter. Boris Jhonson is expected to have the same stance during his visit to India.
Mr. Jhonson is to explain British stance regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and hear what the Indian stance is. This to improve relations and understanding between both countries. The discussions between both countries are to be on the long term impact the war can have.UK had made its stance clear that it supports Ukraine in the ongoing war. The British prime mister even visited Ukraine President in Kyiv earlier this month. Russia’s continued behavior will decide how UK reacts in future as per the UK representatives.
The British prime minister said “As I arrive in India today, I see vast possibilities for what our two great nations can achieve together. From next generation 5G telecoms and AI to new partnerships in health research and renewable energy the UK and India are leading the world.”
Indian businesses are expected to invest around one billion dollars in the UK. This would include the export industries, healthcare and software engineering. The focus of the visit will be to improve trade relations.
UK has been providing Ukraine with military aid. India called for the war to end and differences to be sorted peacefully. “The Indo-Pacific is increasingly important for both sides, as is the need to keep it free from coercion and a place of opportunities that is free to all. There is also a need for democracies to become more resilient,” said representatives of UK. India is an important figure in the Indo-Pacific and has defense alliance with the UK .Defense is one of the important parts of India- UK 2030 roadmap. The meetings will also work on how UK can help India develop indigenous defense weapons and artillery.
