Tragic Shooting Claims Two Sisters Lives
Maia and Rina Dee, two British-Israeli Sisters, were identified as the victims of the shooting in the occupied West Bank. As they traveled to Tiberias on Friday afternoon, the sisters were slain close to the Hamra Junction in the Jordan Valley’s northern region.
They were the offspring of London-born Rabbi Leo Dee, who called them “wonderful.” Leah, their mother, is still in the hospital and is in a serious condition. While Rina, Maia’s younger sister, was 15 years old, Maia was 20 and serving in national service in a high school.
Their father had been traveling ahead in a different vehicle when their automobile was fired at by attackers and forced off the road. He praised his children as gorgeous, intelligent, and well-liked in an interview with local news agencies. Since their passing, he claimed he hasn’t been able to get any rest. Three vehicles made up the larger family’s trip to Tiberias for a vacation. Before knowing that members of his own family were implicated, Rabbi Dee learned about the incident.
His wife and daughters did not pick up when he phoned them. The automobile that was assaulted was later captured in an image on the internet. Then, after arriving at the site, he had to wait to see if his “worst nightmare” had come true. Although he was denied entry, the truth was proved when his daughter’s ID card was given to him.
Funeral Planned for Slain British-Israeli Sisters
According to the mayor of Efrat in the West Bank, the family resides there. On Sunday, there will be a funeral for the sisters. Rabbi Dee expressed his pride in his final three children. In a tweet identifying the sisters, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his sympathies to the family and called the act a terrorist assault.
“No words can describe the depth of our shock and sadness at the heartbreaking news,” said Sir Ephraim Mirvis, head rabbi of the UK. He claimed in a tweet that the two girls were the offspring of British Rabbi Dee and his wife Lucy, whose name is said to be Leah in English.
Their father had previously served as rabbi at Radlett United Synagogue in Hertfordshire, according to the Board of Deputies of British Jews, who expressed their “deep shock and sadness” at their passing.
Following the assaults, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly stated that he had talked with his Israeli colleague, Eli Cohen, and advised anybody concerned about friends or family in Israel to get in touch with the Foreign Office.
Tourist Killed in Tel Aviv Car-Ramming Incident
On Friday, a suspected car-ramming incident in Tel Aviv left one Italian tourist dead and seven others injured, among them three Britons. A minute of silence was observed for the sisters and the Italian tourist by those gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday to protest the contentious judicial reforms put forth by the Israeli government.
The two occurrences occurred hours after Israeli planes launched airstrikes against Hamas-related sites in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. The military claimed the attacks were in retaliation for a barrage of 34 rockets launched by the group on Thursday from Lebanon into northern Israel.
Following two nights of Israeli police incursions at the al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, which incited outrage throughout the area, came the rocket bombardment from Lebanon. Israel Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai ordered all Israelis with a gun license to start carrying their weapons after the two sisters were shot.Â
