Trucker Blockade to End: According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, truckers’ blockades and protests over COVID-19 pandemic restrictions at the Manitoba-US border are scheduled to finish Wednesday (local time). According to CBC News, the RCMP Manitoba is hopeful that demonstrators will leave the area soon and that full access to the border crossing will be restored.
“We are now confident that a resolution has been reached and that demonstrators will soon be leaving the area and that full access to the Emerson port of entry will be restored,” said Chief Supt Rob Hill.
“After two years of the pandemic, and this [blockade] … we will close if this continues,” said Simon Resch, whose shop has been closed to customers since last week.
Protesters are targeting the Emerson crossing, one of five vital land ports for trade at the Canada-US border, calling for an end to not only pandemic restrictions and a federal vaccine mandate for truckers but also Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation and other changes
