CBSE board has come up with a new approach to ensure that board results and other essential documents are tamper-proof and secure. By collaborating with the Centre of Excellence for Blockchain Technology of the National Informatics Centre, which is under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), ensuring that the Government of India will create the Academic BlockChain Document software.
The implementation of this blockchain technology results in transparent, tamper-proof and paperless usage of certificates. The launch of this technology also cuts down the time for the verification process and ensures to reduce paperwork.
Students, schools, and academic institutions can access the software through the CBSE website, created for easy and convenient document verification.
What is Blockchain Technology, And How Does This Work?
The primary objective of BlockChain Technology is to record the data and certificates in a linked chain structure. Developers involved will do the practice of distributing documents at different locations where multiple stakeholders are involved in protecting the documents from tampering.
Academic students, educational institutions and employers verify the documents by following these steps-
firstly, visit the CBSE.certchain.nic.in or cbse.gov.in
secondly, in the menu option, click the verify option, which is at the top menu bar on the home page
thirdly, select the class
Fourthly, provide basic details such as roll number, date of birth, exam year, exam type, and student name. After providing all these details, the press goes to confirm.
Fifthly, once the details are validated, the marks statement of the student are displayed.
Blockchain technology eliminates or reduces the dependency of third-party verification as data is linked and stored with cryptographic security. The information is immutable and traceable due to its ability to connect blocks creating a blockchain.
Why Did CBSE Create This Technology?
Verifying the genuineness and authenticity of the certificate produced by the candidates for admissions, jobs, loans, etc., was one of the core challenges faced by the CBSE boards. Processing documents and certificates required considerable time and effort to process the documents and certificates for its verification. Therefore, most institutions and organizations insist on the production of original certificates.
Academic BlockChain Documents or simply ABCD addresses these challenges mentioned above in terms of verification of documents.
Earlier, CBSE has also developed its digital academic repository named ‘Parinam Manjusha’ in 2016, integrated with National E-Governance Division or NEGD Digital Locker Platform.
What Are The Benefits of This?
This Academic BlockChain Document is helpful in various institutions for verification during the admission process for higher studies and job offers.
This document is helpful for online counselling by integrating their system with plug-in interfaces. Banks and financial institutions can also use this system to sanction educational loans and merit-based scholarships based on the qualifications of the applicants.
The technology can also assure the authenticity of the certificates after several years by providing a trail of all changes or insertions made on the certificates.
What Documents Can Be Made Accessible?
At present, statistics claim that the result data of Class 10-12 examinees of the past 18 years from 2004-2021 are available so that students and employees can access the academic documents by downloading them and proceeding these for verification and will also gradually push the previous years’ certificates in the coming months.
Digitally signed and PKI based QR coded academic documents like mark sheets, migration certificates, and pass certificates are also available.
In conclusion, technology has paved the way where documents can be conveniently made accessible with the click of a button.
