CBFC gives U/A certificate to ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’, the new Karan Johar film and makes a few changes to the uncut version of the film. The changes are done keeping in mind the guidelines to ensure that there are no controversies or dialogues and scenes that could potentially offend any community.

The new Karan Johar directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ is all set to release on 28th July, 2024. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt have been traveling to different parts of the country, promoting their upcoming film. The songs from the film are trending on all social media platforms. Amidst all this, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has given the film a U/A certificate and asked for a few changes to be made in the film.

Changes made by CBFC
Karan Johar and the makers of the “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” have been asked to remove references made to the Lok Sabha and cut out the mention of Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. There’s a certain cuss word being used multiple times in the film which is edited to “behen di”. The liquor brand ‘Old Monk’ has been changed to ‘Bold Monk’. The censor board found one of the dialogues to be “degrading women” and asked for it to be removed. The word ‘bra’ is changed to ‘item’. The scene where Ranveer mistakes Rabindranath Tagore for Alia’s grandfather has grabbed a lot of audience and surprisingly has been retained. “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” has a total run time of two hours and forty eight minutes.
In 2016, when Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan , Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Fawad Khan had released, the Central Board of Certification had made a lot of changes with respect to dialogues where it sounded ‘vulgar’ and had Anushka Sharma’s kissing scenes cut down by 50%. The makers were asked to add a disclaimer honoring URI attack martyrs in order to prevent controversy of casting Fawad Khan in the film, who is a Pakistani actor. Despite all the edits and cuts, the movie’s duration was reduced by very few seconds.

The film’s trailer was released earlier this month and has garnered a lot of attention from audiences. The film is about Rocky and Rani who fall in love with each other but have very different families which could pose a trouble to them getting married. For the families and the couple to be more compatible with one another, they decide to live with each other’s families, three months before the wedding. The audiences look forward to an entertainment film by Karan Johar who is famously known for his grand way of filmmaking with big Indian families, and has returned to his director chair after seven years. This is his twenty fifth year in the film industry and seventh film directed by him.
There is a lot of buzz being created around the idea and aesthetics of the film which has a signature 90s and 2000s ‘Dharma Productions’ approach. The song “Tum Kya Mile” that was released has been showered with appreciation for Arijit Singh’s vocals and the scenic way in which it has been shot. Alia Bhatt is seen flaunting beautiful chiffon sarees that first sparked the internet with speculations of the “Return of Old Bollywood”. The film has a large star cast that includes Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi to name a few.
