o Union Minister of State for Home says that 2,399 Bangladeshi nationals have been intercepted in India so far.
The Center has directed state governments to take prompt action for the identification of unlawful Bangladeshi migrants residing in India. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai added that 2,399 Bangladeshi nationals have been intercepted and found using illegally obtained Indian documents in the last five years. “The central government has issued relevant instructions to state governments and Union Territories respectively to taking appropriate steps for the identification of illegal migrants,” he said in a written statement
The minister said that the states and Union territories have also been asked to restrict illegal migrants to specified locations as per provisions of the law, contain their biographic and biometric details, cancel false Indian documents and initiate legal proceedings including but not limited to deportation proceedings. Rai said the state governments have also been directed to share the particulars of those illegal migrants who have wrongfully made Aadhaar cards for suitable legal action.
State governments have been further advised to cancel any identification documents obtained illegally by migrants, such as voter card, driving license, ration card and others, he said. The Center has asked state governments to carry out prompt procedures for the identification of illegal Bangladeshi migrants staying in India.
The Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stated that 2,399 Bangladeshi nationals have been intercepted so far and found using fraudulently obtained Indian documents in the last five years. “The central government has issued directives to state governments and Union Territories to take appropriate prompt steps for the catching of illegal migrants,” he said.
The minister said the states and Union territories have also been asked to restrict illegal migrants to specific locations in areas as per the permits of law, while maintaining a record of their biographic and biometric particulars, cancellation of false Indian documents and carrying out of legal proceedings including initiation of deportation proceedings. Rai said the states have also been told to share the details of those illegal migrants who have gotten their Aadhaar cards illegally for appropriate legal action.
State governments have further been directed to discard any identification documents that have been obtained illegally by illegal migrants, such as voter card, driving license, ration card and others. The central government on Tuesday informed that in the last 5 years, as many as 2399 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained and found to be using fraudulently obtained Indian documents.
Furthermore, the states/UTs have additionally been told to share the details of unlawful migrants who’ve wrongfully obtained Aadhaar cards with the Unique Identification Authority of India for suitable legal action. State governments have been suggested to cancel any identification paperwork obtained fraudulently by illegal migrants, such as voter cards, driving licenses, ration cards and so on and so forth, he added.
It may be recalled that last month, it was reported how Uttar Pradesh authorities were on alert due to the rise in Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar. The authorities have tightened supervision to nab illegal migrants, who have reportedly established colonies in the western districts of the state including Meerut, Aligarh, Bulandshahr and Deoband. The Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorist Squad, based off on interrogations of arrested Rohingya Muslims, revealed that hundreds of Rohingyas have crossed over illegally into the country and are working in butcher shops across the state.
