The Spanish defender to continue his stay at Stamford Bridge. Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new contract renewal deal with the Blues. The veteran player has signed a two-year-deal with the club. It means that the club will have the services of the former Marseille defender till the end of 2024.
Chelsea’s performance in this transfer window has been quite bleak. The club has been informed from Thomas Tuchel that he needs three strong center-backs for the upcoming season. They have already missed out on signing the Dutch defender, Nathan Ake. New owner Todd Bohley has refused to pay the transfer fee that Manchester side had asked.
Cesar Azpilicueta was strongly rumored to join the Catalan side FC Barcelona. As new boss Xavi was very keen to have someone in the team who’s experienced as well as someone who can easily adapt to the style of play. It seems that Chelsea has managed to convince the versatile defender to stay at the club.
FC Barcelona even had an agreement with the player for a two-year-deal. Player was ready for a move back to his homeland. Both the parties agreed to this in February. But Chelsea intervened as they weren’t satisfied with the offer of FC Barcelona.
The club owner Todd Bohley and the German tactician Thomas Tuchel had direct calls with the player to convince him stay at the club. The club management and the coach consider Azpilicueta to be one of the leaders of the team. Azpilicueta has accepted to stay at the North-London club since he has always been committed, serious and professional about his role at Chelsea.
Chelsea is serious about their defense line this season. They were interested to sign Nathan Ake, Pau Torres and Matthis De Ligt. Despite missing on them they didn’t hesitate to keep on making moves for the defensive players as they have signed Koulibaly from Napoli.
According to the king of transfers, Fabrizio Romano they have also managed to acquire the services of Brighton defender Marc Cucurella.
The signing of contract extension of Cesar is a statement of intent from Chelsea that they still want to finish in the top and fight for the tittles.
