Marcos Alonso already agreed to personal terms with Barcelona three months ago. However, the club never submitted a bid to Chelsea as it waited for its financial situation to settle down. Chelsea on the other hand showed interest in Aubameyang this month in a bid to sign a new striker.
Barcelona initially dismissed the talks to include Marcos Alonso in the deal for Aubameyang but the deal did not progress. Chelsea had no intentions to pay the amount Barcelona was asking for and kept pushing for a deal included with Alonso.
The deadline day deal comes after a month of negotiations and will benefit both the clubs in need of important players. Chelsea’s dismal start to the Premier League season suggests how badly they need a striker. Barcelona on the hand has a financial crisis and that meant it wasn’t able to register players in La Liga.
