Premier League club Chelsea has completed the signing of center-back Wesley Fofana from Leicester City. The clubs have reached an agreement on the fee, which is £75m including add-ons. Wesley Fofana already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea weeks ago.

The 21-year-old defender was unavailable for Leicester City last week against Southampton in their 1-2 defeat. “One, a change in system and two, I mentioned in the week, we’re coming into a Premier League game and maybe we’ve got players who are maybe not quite in the right frame of mind. You can’t carry them, or certainly, we can’t. So yeah, that’s the reason for the changes,” said Leicester manager Brendon Rogers.
Fofana signed a new extension deal with Leicester back in March. He played 2 matches this season with the club, a 2-2 draw against Brentford and a 2-4 loss vs Arsenal. He then asked to be left out of the club’s matches in the League and EFL Cup.
Wesley Fofana is Chelsea’s 7th signing of the season. The club has already signed Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, and Kalidou Koulibaly among others. The poor start in the Premier League season made manager Thomas Tuchel think of reinforcements.
Wesley Fofana player profile
French U21 international signed for Leicester City in summer 2020 from Saint-Étienne. The center-back made 52 appearances for the club during which he scored 1 goal and assisted 1. During his first season, he consistently played an important role in the club’s back line.
However, he was injured for a significant part of the last season and could only make a total of 12 appearances. He signed a new two-year contract extension with the club in March until 2027. Thus he leaves after 6 months of extending his contract.
Wesley Fofana’s stint at Leicester City was short but successful apart from the injury duration. He won the English FA Cup with the club in 2021. Fofana will leave the club with a fair share of achievements.
Chelsea will face Leicester City on 27th August in the Premier League and it is unlikely that Wesley Fofana will be available for either side. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will hope to turn things around with his new signings. Brendon Rogers will hope to lead Leicester to their first Premier League of the season.
