The Chhattisgarh government passed its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2022 on Thursday in an effort to establish the state as an EV-manufacturing hub, generate employment, and slow down environmental damage.
At a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel approved the policy. The government has a five-year goal of having 15 percent of new individual or commercial vehicle registrations be electric vehicles.
Electric Vehicle Policy 2022 Terms
Under the terms of the policy, electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers will be granted exemptions for the manufacturing of electric vehicles, components of electric vehicles, electric vehicle batteries, and charging infrastructure. In accordance with the state’s housing policy, the installation of a charging infrastructure will be required, making charging points mandatory in residential and commercial complexes. It is expected that charging stations will be established in both public and private buildings.
The policy guarantees EV-related skill training and promotes EV technology manufacturing. It also encourages current automobile manufacturers to expand into the production of electric vehicles.
The government of the state has made an announcement that it will reimburse 100 percent of the state goods and services tax (SGST) and registration fees for electric buses and electric goods carriages sold within the state over the course of the five-year policy period. It will also reimburse SGST for manufacturing EVs in the state during the period in question.
The state’s electric vehicle vision will be supported by the government with industrial strategies. In addition to that, it will launch an online portal for information on electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure, as well as an application process for various incentives related to EVs.
Capital subsidies will be given to businesses that produce EVs, EV batteries, EV parts, and charging infrastructure. The state government will set aside 500–1,000 acres for the development of an EV park, which would include a facility for start-up incubation.
There will be platforms and programmers for industry engagement, as well as the investigation of potential MoUs with manufacturers of lithium cell/EV vehicle parts to begin production in the state.
For the first 300 fast-charging stations in the state, the policy will offer a capital subsidy of 25 percent to certain energy operators for charging equipment or machinery. The maximum amount per station will be Rs. 10 lakh. The state government will also reimburse energy operators for any applicable SGST on batteries they purchase for use in switching/swapping stations.
