New Delhi: Congress Leader Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram booked by CBI on Tuesday. CBI raided multiple locations at Chidambaram’s residence in Chennai and Delhi. S Bhaskararaman alleged close aide of Karti Chidambaram has been arrested in a fresh Visa Bribe case that happened in 2011.
CBI has registered an FIR against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram for allegedly facilitating visas for around 300 Chinese nationals in July-August, 2011. According to the FIR, Karti accepted a bribe of rupees 50 Lakhs from a subsidiary of Vedanta Group working in a collaboration with a company for a Power Project in Punjab.
The company needed more Chinese workers so that their project won’t get delayed. Chidambaram cleared all visas within a month illegally. The Ministry of Home was headed by P Chidambaram at that period.
P Chidambaram and AICC General Secretary Ajay Maken in their recent tweets questioned the timing of searches. Maken said that Chidambaram was Union Minister in 2011 and the search is being done in 2022, after 12 years. This is just to divert people’s attention from real issues.
While Chidambaram tweeted that CBI has shown me an FIR in which I wasn’t named as an accused. They searched multiple locations at my Delhi and Chennai residences and “found nothing” and seized nothing.
Karti immediately tweeted without specifying clearly. “I have lost count. How many times it has been? Must be a record.”
