08 September 2024. Li Qiang, Chinese premier, is attended the East Asia Summit 2024 this year, in Jakarta. This is the 18th summit to be held. Li Qiang emphasized the significance of the summit to confront new challenges and encouraged to take on a greater role in improvement, strategic conversations, and ASEAN leadership, as well as in sparking regional prosperity and advancing the establishment of a free trade zone in Asia-Pacific region.
Speaking to the group in Jakarta, Indonesia, he said that over the past several years, East Asia has taken advantage of the opportunities presented by economic globalisation, firmly established itself on the proper road of open growth and mutually beneficial cooperation, and transformed into a significant force for global development.
He continued by saying that East Asia is well aware of the challenges of development, the need for openness, and the importance of peace. He also added that the region is fully aware that unity leads to prosperity and division leads to downfall.
Li Qiang said that the EAS’s initial course of action should be to more effectively carry out its responsibility for encouraging development and stimulating regional growth.
China is prepared to have a more in-depth conversation and to collaborate with all parties to implement the Global Growth Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and other initiatives put forth by the President of China Xi Jinping. Said Mr. Li Qiang.
Additionally, the Chinese leader urged the summit to support ASEAN’s centrality and collaboratively advance inclusive and fruitful cooperation. He said, the EAS should, to the greatest extent achievable, take into account the goals and objectives of all parties, improve how their advantages complement one another, and foster unity.
Chinese Premier, Mr Li Qiang, expressed the hope that nations outside the region would fully endorse the efforts undertaken by regional countries to reach agreements on the regulations of the South China Sea to preserve peace and stability in the region. China and ASEAN nations are actively encouraging consultations on the South China Sea Code of Conduct.
Premier Li Qiang Stressed the Significance of the Summit
The Chinese premier, Li Qiang stated that it’s essential to maintain the marine ecological condition and the South China sea, referring it as “Blue heart” of the planet, with an ethical mindset towards history and humanity in light of the widespread effects of marine pollution.
China will host the 3rd Belt and Road Forum in October. The Premier welcomed all the parties for global cooperation. He emphasised that China would uphold its fundamental state policy of opening up and continue to offer all nations opportunities for growth. Leaders present at the meeting concurred this prosperity and growth depend on peace and stability.
In order to practise multilateralism, improve constructive dialogue, work together to address worldwide issues in areas like climate change, healthcare, energy, and food availability, build a foundation for regional collaboration and a developing centre, and advocate peace and sustainable growth in the region and beyond, they urged regional countries to fully utilise the duty of the EAS to serve as a leaders-led designed forum.
An agreement was reached at the meeting about the preservation and promotion of the area as a hub for global growth.
